CAN I MAKE A HOMEMADE CHOCOLATE CAKE?
Absolutely, if you do not want to doctor up a cake mix for this recipe you can use your favorite homemade chocolate cake recipe.
Just make sure that the recipe will make roughly 24 cupcakes.
CAN I USE ANOTHER PUDDING IN THE FROSTING?
If you want to cut back on the chocolate you can use another pudding in the frosting recipe.
Use vanilla, cheesecake or even Oreo frosting to switch it up and give it a different flavor, each of these will taste amazing.
You can also use another frosting if you do not want to use the whipped frosting that we have in this recipe you can make your favorite chocolate buttercream.
You can also use a cream cheese for a more cookies and cream flavor as well.
Again, just make sure you are making enough to cover roughly 24 cupcakes.
DO I HAVE TO PUT AN OREO AT THE BOTTOM OF THE CUPCAKES?
You technically do not have to, but we love it and it really takes these Oreo Cupcakes over the top.
You can switch up the flavor of the Oreos if you’d like as well. Golden Oreos, Red Velvet, Mint, etc.
If you do not choose to use an Oreo on the bottom of the cupcakes, they may be shorter.
CAN I ADD ANY ADDITIONS TO THE CAKE BATTER?
While these are great the way they are, if you want to add some extra ingredients to the cake batter you can. Some ideas include:
- Chopped Oreos
- Mini Chocolate Chips
- White Chocolate Chips
- Sprinkles
- Coconut
These are just some ideas that I think would work and taste great, you can try anything that you’d like.
HOW TO STORE:
You can store these cupcakes in the refrigerator in an airtight container where they will keep for up to 2 days (the Oreos on top will become a little soggy).
These can also be frozen, I recommend freezing the cupcakes before frosting. To do that bake and cool cupcakes per the recipe.
Place cupcakes in an airtight freezer container and they will keep in the freezer for up to 3 months.
To defrost, remove from the freezer into the refrigerator or on the countertop until defrosted. Make frosting, frost and decorate.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- DO NOT use the ingredients on the back of the box, we substitute them with others.
- You can switch up the frosting to another flavor or another frosting completely, see my suggestions above.
- Make your own homemade chocolate cake mix.
- Decorate your cupcakes right before serving as the Oreos can become soggy.
- These can be frozen, see above on how to do that.
- Switch up the Oreo flavors for the bottom Oreo.
