I’m obsessed with Naan, I will eat it with just about anything and along by itself. Garlic Naan has always been my favorite flavor.
Instead of wasting your money and buying it from the store, you can easily make a bunch at home with minimal ingredients and time and serve them up with your favorite dish.
While this is a great bread recipe, it makes a great side dish, and goes with so so many main dishes as well.
The minced garlic that is added after the dough is mixed together really make you taste that punch of flavor.
Garlic Naan is just one of those savory things that you can just eat as is or serve with other things, no judgement here.

INGREDIENTS NEEDED (FULL RECIPE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE POST):
Self-rising flour
Greek yogurt
Minced garlic
Oil for brushing
Chopped parsley for garnish (optional)
Sea salt for garnish (optional)
HOW TO MAKE GARLIC NAAN, STEP BY STEP:
- In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine flour and Greek yogurt. Mix on low speed using a dough hook attachment.
- Mix until the flour is incorporated, and the dough is smooth.
- Place dough on a well-floured surface and knead with your hands a few times until the dough is formed into a smooth ball.
- Divide the dough ball into 8 even pieces and roll each piece into a ball.
- Roll each dough ball in flour and then roll flat using a rolling pin. Each piece should be as thin as you can get it without it breaking.
- Brush each piece with neutral oil (both sides) and brush garlic onto one side of each piece of naan.
- Heat a pan to medium heat, then place the naan onto the pan. It should bubble up. Cook each side for 1-2 minutes.
- Remove from the pan and brush lightly with oil again and sprinkle with sea salt and freshly cut parsley.
- Serve with your favorite dish or enjoy by itself!
HOW MANY PIECES DOES THIS MAKE?
This makes 8 decent sized pieces of Naan. You can easily double this recipe to have more to serve or just eat.
CAN I GIVE THIS GARLIC NAAN RECIPE A LITTLE KICK?
Who doesn’t love a little kick? I absolutely love the garlic flavor in this recipe but sometimes I want a little spice as well.
When the Naan is done cooking, after you brush it sprinkle it with some red pepper flakes to give it that nice little spice kick that you are looking for.
DO I HAVE TO USE SELF-RISING FLOUR?
Yes, for this recipe you do have to use self-rising flour. We are not using any yeast or letting it sit or proof.
The self rising flour mixed with the greek yogurt will achieve the texture and volume that you are looking for.
WHAT CAN I SERVE GARLIC NAAN WITH?
While this is traditionally served with Indian food, you can really serve it with so many things or on it’s own. Some of our favorite dishes to serve it with include:

HOW TO STORE:
This can be store in in the refrigerator in an airtight container, foil or plastic wrap where it will keep for up to 3 days.
This can also be frozen, wrap each piece in plastic wrap and place in a freezer container or bag. This will keep for up to 2-3 months.
To defrost, remove from the freezer onto the countertop until defrosted. To reheat, place in a 325 degree F oven for 10 minutes or in the microwave for 30 seconds.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- Make sure you are using PLAIN Greek yogurt, don’t accidentally get flavored.
- These can be frozen, see above on how to do that.
- Use self-rising flour for this since we are not using yeast.
- Easily double this recipe to serve more people or keep on hand for later.
- If you want to give it a little heat, sprinkle some red pepper flakes after it is done cooking.
