WHY THIS RECIPE WORKS:
- Making a large batch, you will have enough on hand for seconds.
- Having a garlic butter topping, it gives these a delicious flavor.
- These go with any and everything that you love.
INGREDIENTS NEEDED (FULL RECIPE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE POST):

All-purpose flour
Unsalted butter
Granulated sugar
Fine salt
Sea salt

HOW TO MAKE SOFT GARLIC BREADSTICKS, STEP BY STEP:
- In a small mixing bowl, combine ยผ cup of the warm water and the yeast. Whisk together and let the mixture stand for about 5 minutes or until it becomes foamy.
- In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the dough hook, add the flour, butter, sugar, salt, remaining water and the yeast mixture. Mix on medium speed until a dough forms.ย It will be slightly sticky but should clear the sides of the bowl.
- Move the dough from the bowl onto a floured surface and knead by hand until the dough is smooth and soft.
- Roll the dough into a log shape and cut into 16 equal pieces.
- Using your hands, roll the dough into a breadstick shape approximately 6-7 inches long. Place on a lined baking sheet 2 inches apart. Cover with a towel or cloth and let rise in a warm place until the breadsticks double in size.
- While your dough is rising, preheat your oven to 400 degrees F.
- Melt your butter in a small bowl and then brush the risen breadsticks with the melted butter. Then, sprinkle each one with a pinch of sea salt garlic powder, and oregano.
- Bake for 13-15 minutes or until the breadsticks are golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and enjoy.
WHAT KIND OF YEAST SHOULD I USE?
For this recipe we use active dry yeast. We have not tested this recipe with bread or instant yeast.
So when you are going to buy yeast, make sure that you grab the active dry one.
HOW DO I MAKE THESE WITH A MORE GARLIC FLAVOR?
If you want to have a more garlic punch, then you will want to add more of the butter, garlic powder, salt and oregano.
You can brush the breadsticks again after they come out of the oven to get another nice coat of flavor.
WHAT CAN I SERVE GARLIC BREADSTICKS WITH?
These Soft Garlic Breadsticks can go with so many things, some of my favorites to serve them with include:
- Side salad
- Soup
- Lasagna
- Pizza
- Pasta
- Meatloaf
- Alfredo Sauce (for dipping)
And soooo many more things, like I said – these can go with all the things.
HOW WARM SHOULD MY WATER BE?
You don’t want to your water to be too warm or it will kill the yeast, or too cold and it wont activate the yeast.
We believe that a temperature between 105-110 degrees F is the perfect temperature to get the yeast to bloom.
HOW TO STORE:
These can be stored in an airtight container on the countertop for up to 3-4 days.
You can also freeze, these. Place the breadsticks in a freezer container and they will keep in the freezer for up to 2 months.
The dough can also be frozen if you want to use it for later use. To do that, do not cut the dough into pieces.
Let it rise in an oiled bowl for roughly 45 minutes until doubled in size. Once it has risen, punch it down and wrap it in plastic wrap then into a freezer bag where it will keep frozen for up to 4 months.
To defrost frozen dough, remove from the freezer and unwrap and again place in an oiled bowl at room temperature (covered) until it is thawed. It will rise again as it is thawing.
You will then want to shape into a log and cut it into the 16 pieces and roll out and bake immediately.
To defrost baked breadsticks, remove from the freezer to the countertop until thawed. You can reheat in the oven at 400 degrees F covered until heated through.
