WHAT IS TEXAS TRASH?
While I cant pin down where the name came from, most likely Texas somewhere, Texas Trash is made up of various cereals, nuts and pretzels among other things.
It is then coated in a butter/spice mixture that is baked at allow temperature to make the spices stick onto the ingredients creating a delicious and addictive flavor.
WHAT ELSE CAN I ADD TO THIS?
While we like the combination that we use in this recipe other ideas that you can add to this recipe include:
- Bugles
- Goldfish
- Pecans
- Rye Chips, etc.
Those are just a few other ideas that we have added to this Party Mix before and we love all of them, but keep coming back to our normal recipe.
CAN I MAKE THIS IN THE SLOW COOKER?
Yes absolutely! We have made a lot of our party mixes in the slow cooker and this is one of them that you can do to as well.
To slow cook prepare according to directions and then place in a 6 quart crockpot, cover and cook on low for 1 1/2 to 2 hours, stirring every 20 minutes or so so it doesn’t burn.
HOW TO STORE:
We like to keep ours in a large lidded bowl, but you can also store in a ziptop bag and it will keep for about 4-6 weeks.
You can also store in the freezer in freezer friendly bags for about 5-6 months, just let it come to room temperature before serving.
This Texas Trash Party Mix is just so fun and easy that you can’t not make it! It will be perfect for those football games or New Years even!
We usually make a batch of this monthly to keep around to snack on, one of my sons is a huge Party Mix fan so he always requests this so we usually keep it around.
