We are big popcorn eaters around this house. We love anything that really is snack based. This recipe is one of our favorites for movie watching.
My kids are in love with this, they are more of the popcorn eaters and when you add chocolate to the mix, they are just in heaven so this recipe is one of their favorites.
Not only is it easy, it’s super quick to whip up, and that is exactly the type of recipes that we like to do around this house. With 4 mouths to feed, easy and fast is what we need.

Let’s just safely say that we have popcorn on had in our house at all times and when we run out, it’s all out chaos and I wish I wasn’t kidding.
Over the years my mom would always make us marshmallow popcorn and caramel popcorn so it has just always been one of those beloved snacks over the years.
Literally this was our go-to weekend snack as a kid, just me and my mom sitting down on the couch eating our popcorn and watching movies.
It’s always a good time to reminisce and that is what I’m trying to do with my kids these days.
HOW TO MAKE CHOCOLATE POPCORN, STEP BY STEP:
- In a medium saucepan, melt chocolate chips, brown sugar, butter, and corn syrup. Keep stirring until mixture boils.
- Remove from heat and add in vanilla and baking soda.
- Combine with popcorn stirring with a rubber spatula. (Lightly grease spatula if mixture is sticking.)
- Once mixed, pour popcorn mixture onto lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake at 250 degrees for 20-30 minutes. Remove from over and let cool. Separate mixture into pieces and enjoy!
There is just something about this Chocolate Popcorn recipe that we cannot resist. I think it’s because it is just so simple to make. But in all honestly who doesn’t love easy recipes.
WHAT KIND OF POPCORN SHOULD I USE?
Honestly in this recipe any popcorn will work fine, buttered, unbuttered, lightly salted, or even kettle corn. They all work with this recipe
The chocolate with the butter/salt gives it a sweet and salty flavor that is absolutely delicious if you are that kind of person, which I am for sure.
WHAT KIND OF CHOCOLATE SHOULD I USE?
This is one of those personal kind of preference things. We love using milk chocolate, but have also used semi-sweet and dark chocolate as well.

I think the best part of of this Chocolate Popcorn is that it is entirely covered in chocolate. You see a lot of recipes that are drizzled in chocolate but this is covered.
I love chocolate pretty much more than any other flavor around so this recipe is really right up my alley for sure. There is nothing I don’t like about this
The combination of the chocolate, corn syrup and brown sugar really adds a depth of flavor that just makes it stand out completely instead of just mixing with regular melted chocolate.
HOW TO STORE:
This recipe needs to be stored in an airtight container in a cool dry place so the chocolate doesn’t melt. We recommend a Tupperware container or ziptop bag.
This should keep up to a week if sealed properly, but usually it doesn’t last that long in our household.
One thing that we also love investing in are these little popcorn buckets, you can find them on amazon or we actually found ours at the Dollar Store, they are perfect so everyone can have their own portion.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- You can use any kind of standard 3ish oz popcorn that you’d like.
- You can also use any kind of chocolate that you would like, semi-sweet, milk or dark.
- Make sire the popcorn is completely cooled before you break into pieces.
- Keep this is a cool dry place so the chocolate doesn’t melt.
- You can add additional add ins such as nuts if you’d like, they make delicious additions and we add them all the time.
- This recipe can easily be doubled to feed more people.

Chocolate Popcorn
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup chocolate chips
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/3 cup softened butter
- 1/3 cup light corn syrup
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 3 oz bag butter flavored microwave popcorn, popped
Instructions
- Pop popcorn as directed on package and pour in large bowl. Remove all unpopped kernels from popcorn and set aside
