With only 4 ingredients and fully of delicious fudgy, chocolatey flavor this easy Brigadeiro recipe is a delicious Brazilian treat that you have to whip up!
Chocolate is one of my go-to dessert recipes ever. I can honestly say that if I had to choose between any flavor of sweets, chocolate would be one of my automatic selections.
This Brigadeiro recipe is such a hit, makes a bunch and is a fun and super easy recipe to whip up for holidays, parties, or just because you are craving something super sweet, and it doesn’t take a whole bunch of time either!
WHY THIS RECIPE WORKS:
- With only 4 ingredients it is hard to screw up, a little bit of cooking time brings everything together nicely to make a chewy and delicious fudgy dessert.
- With sweetness from sweetened condensed milk mixed with cocoa powder you can’t go wrong, the two go together nicely and when cocoa powder mixes with the milk, it creates a creamy and dreamy chocolate concoction.
- This recipe can have various “toppings” traditionally used with chocolate sprinkles you can switch it up to coconut, nuts, colored sprinkles, etc.
WHAT IS BRIGADEIRO?
Brigadeiro is a traditional Brazillian confection that is not quite considered fudge, truffle nor a bonbon, but something completely in and of itself.
It is traditionally made with butter, sweetened condensed milk and cocoa powder, while recipes vary from person to person you can also use things such as nesquick in place of the cocoa powder.
It is a dessert that is cooked together until thickened and cooled, shaped into balls and then rolled into chocolate sprinkles creating a chewy, fudge like consistency that is just absolutely perfect.
We absolutely adore this easy recipe. Brigadeiro’s have become one of our favorite chocolate treats around here. The kids gobble them up whenever I make them.
They really don’t last long and are one of those treats that you want to give out to friends as gifts during there holidays or take to get togethers, which usually in Brazilian households are a staple at many family gatherings.
HOW TO MAKE BRIGADEIROS, STEP BY STEP:
In saute pan (or saucepan) add your cocoa powder, butter and sweetened condensed milk, heat over medium heat until melted and continue to heat until thickened and the mixture pulls away from the side (Photos 1-3).
Remove from heat and cool to room temperature. Shape into 3/4″-1″ balls and roll in chocolate sprinkles, place on a parchment paper lined baking sheet and chill until ready to serve (Photos 4-6).
This recipe simply couldn’t get any easier! I mean sometimes I don’t even make it to the rolling stage because I just sit there and eat the concoction with a spoon!
Brigadeiros are super simple and you just have to try whipping them up! If you love trying foods from different cultures then this is one you need to attempt!
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- Use 100% Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
- Consistently stir this while heating so it doesn’t scorch to the bottom, once it starts to pull away from the sides and you can run a spoon down the center and it slowly melts into place, then its time to removed from heat.
- Let this cool to room temperature before trying to handle, to speed up the process you can place in refrigerator.
- When rolling into balls, butter or grease your hands, this is a sticky recipe and without having some grease on your hands it will get all over you (this is normal).
- You can switch up your chocolate sprinkles with regular colored sprinkles, coconut, nuts, etc.
- These are best served chilled.
If you want that one deliciously easy recipe then you have to make this Brigadeiro recipe ASAP. They are super simple, make a bigger batch and go faster than hotcakes!

Sounds delicious and easy. I think Iโll add a 1/2 teaspoon of chile powder and a pinch of salt for character!
