- Spoon the oatmeal into bowls and top with fresh diced or sliced strawberries and a splash of cream. Enjoy immediately.
HOW CAN I SUBSTITUTE WITH FRESH STRAWBERRIES?
For a lighter strawberry flavor (or to use up more summer berries!), you can substitute the freeze-dried strawberries with 1 ยฝ cups of fresh chopped strawberries.
You can leave them in chunks, or pulse them a few times in the blender or food processor to mash them up.
If you substitute fresh strawberries for freeze-dried strawberries, you will need less sugar overall.
WHAT OATS SHOULD I USE?
For this recipe you will want to be using old fashioned rolled oats. Do not try to make this with quick cooking oats.
Since this will be cooking, the quick cooking oats would not turn out. So make sure that you are using old fashioned for this recipe.
CAN I USE ANOTHER SWEETENER IN THIS?
Yes, if you do not want to use sugar you can substitute with honey or maple syrup.
The honey you can add in about 1/4 cup, for the maple syrup you will want to add a little less.
Once it is done you can add more to your taste, I would start in smaller measurements and then add more later so you can adjust the taste to your liking.
WHAT CAN I TOP THIS STRAWBERRY OATMEAL WITH?
Topping oatmeal is one of my favorite things to do! So many things can be added, some of our favorites include:
- Brown Sugar
- Granola
- Sliced Bananas
- Sliced Almonds
- Coconut
- Chocolate Chips
- Flax Seeds
HOW TO STORE:
These can be stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days. But I personally do not recommend storing oatmeal.
Oatmeal can get really mushy if you don’t consume it right away.
If you are storing it, you can reheat it in the microwave until heated through.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- Make sure you are using old fashioned rolled oats.
- Fresh strawberries can be used, see above on how to do that.
- Other toppings can be added, see some ideas above.
- Easily double this recipe to serve more people.
- This can be stored in the refrigerator for a few days, but we do not recommend storing oatmeal.
