Who doesn’t love a good Pulled Pork Sandwich, amiright? Some of my favorites that I have made over the years include The Best Grilled Cheese, Spaghetti Sandwich and these Easy Croissant Breakfast Sandwiches.
Don’t they say that sandwiches are pretty much the king of food? Or am I imagining that accusation? Well if it’s true, I completely agree with it.
WHY THIS RECIPE WORKS:
- 3 simple ingredients makes these Pulled Pork Sandwiches come together super easy.
- You can use any kind of dry rub, or none at all for the seasoning on your pork.
- You can use various cuts of pork but we use pork shoulder.
My kids go nuts when we make these Pulled Pork Sandwiches, it is one of the most requested recipes around and it’s a fix it and forget it meal, who doesn’t love tossing something together and coming back and it’s done for you.
We are huge fans of slow cooker recipes, especially this one! They are so easy to whip up and I love a meal that really takes minimal effort to make.
HOW TO MAKE PULLED PORK SANDWICHES, STEP BY STEP:
- Rub your pork with about 1/3 cup of your favorite bbq dry rub we used Hey Grill Hey’s Sweet Rub.
- In bowl or large measuring cup add your bbq sauce and pineapple juice.
- Whisk together until everything is combined.
- Add your pork to a 6qt crockpot and pour your sauce over the top and cook on low for 8-10 hours or high 5-6 hours.
This recipe is super easy, the pork even cooked on high shreds so nicely so it really doesn’t matter if you do cook it on high or low you will have the same results.
Like I stated above we used a premixed dry rub mixture but if you want to make your own you can absolutely do that, or just use your favorite bottled one.
Also you can use any BBQ sauce you like for this recipe, we used just regular straight plain BBQ sauce because we wanted that hint of pineapple juice to shine through.
I’m a huge fan of topping my Pulled Pork Sandwiches with Coleslaw, now this is debatable, but I highly recommend it if you have not tried it before!
WHAT KIND OF PORK SHOULD I USE?
Pulled Pork Sandwiches can pretty much be made from any fatty pork roast. The best cut to use is from the shoulder. The shoulder is usually in two parts the Boston Butt or Picnic. We used the Boston Butt for this recipe.
You can also use a large tenderloin roast, or smaller packages of two tenderloins as well, but we usually go for the larger pieces of meat for this.
The Butt portion will consist usually of the blade bone, which will fall out when you shred it, so do not worry about your pork having a bone in it, it is easy to remove.
The shoulder is also considered the most flavorful portion of the pig because it’s higher in fat, which you can either cut off before you cook or remove after you shred.
We usually remove after we shred because we like that extra flavor in their personally, and it’s really easy to remove and saves us time from trimming our meat.
WHAT DO YOU SERVE WITH PULLED PORK?
This is a list that could go on and on forever. Since Pulled Pork Sandwiches fall in the BBQ category, obviously BBQ sides are the way to go!
Some of my favorite things that we regularly serve with these sandwiches include:
These are easy go-to staple sides of these sandwiches and the best part is that they can all be served at the same time all together.
I mean if you are going to make Pulled Pork Sandwiches why not go out with the whole shebang right? The more food the better, bring on the carbs!
Just kidding, everything in moderation….maybe…maybe not. It’s up to your discretion.
Another great thing about this Pulled Pork is that we like to use the leftovers in lots of different ways! Have you ever had a Pulled Pork Grilled Cheese? YUUUUUMMMM.
Another way we like to serve leftovers is in this Pulled Pork Mac and Cheese, talk about addicting, seriously you need to try it at least once.
HOW TO STORE:
Make sure that you refrigerate your pork, this should not be left out at room temperature for any longer than a few hours.
Store in an airtight container such as a ziptop bag or Tupperware and it should keep up to 3-4 days.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- After shredding it will look like a lot of liquid, the meat will soak it up do not worry.
- Make sure if you are using a pork butt to remove the blade bone, its large you can’t miss it.
- I highly encourage you to try it topped with coleslaw if you haven’t before, so good and ads some crunch.
- Use any bbq rub or sauce you want on this recipe the rub we used is linked above.
- You can trim the fat off your pork if you like (this hold amazing flavor) or just remove the fatty portions when shredding.
- Drizzle a little extra BBQ sauce on top of your sandwich for a more potent BBQ flavor if you desire.
