I’m not sure if it is a midwest thing but Pickle Rollups are huge around here, along with Pickle Dip. Now we love both, but sometimes you just want to switch it up a little bit.

So that is exactly what I did. Pinwheels are one of our favorite party appetizers, we bring them to a lot of gatherings. These Pickle Dip Pinwheels are one of ours, and many of our friends favorite ones.

We also love bringing our Italian Pinwheels along with your Veggie Pizza Pinwheels along as well because they always get good reviews and never have to take any home with us.

Can you say EASY!

This pinwheel recipe is for all you pickle lovers. When I first shared this with some of my friends they went wild over it. I never really new the whole pickle craze until we started making these.

Now I’m not a plain pickle person, and if I do eat pickles along they have to be dipped in ranch dressing. I know it’s weird, but I love it.

Some of my favorite recipes using pickles:

  • In medium sized bowl beat your cream cheese until smooth.
  • Fold in your diced ham and pickles until combined.
  • Spread your mixture evenly among tortillas leaving about 1/2″ on the side and roll up tightly.

Seriously you guys, these pinwheels are to die for. So my dad isn’t the foodie type of person, like he will just say oh yeah this is good and go about his business.

When I first had him try my Pickle Dip Pinwheels he literally went into detail about how its creamy and the pickles aren’t too tart, etc. It was the best thing ever.

TIPS AND TRICKS:

  • We like to use Gedney pickle spears, my husband is adamant that they are the best tasting pickles.
  • Really dry your pickles before you cut and add them to your cream cheese, it prevents it from being too watery and bleeding into your tortillas or mixture.
  • Make sure your cream cheese is at room temperature, makes it easier to combine.
  • We use prepackaged sliced ham for this, but you could also use ham chunks for more texture if you would like.
  • The longer you refrigerate the better they will hold up when cutting.
  • Cut with a serrated knife, I have found that cutting pinwheels with this type of knife makes it so much easier to slice through.

    1. We use regular tortillas, but you can buy mission low carb tortillas which are anywhere from 4-6 carbs per tortilla. There is also some spinach “wraps” I know you can get at Walmart that are very low carb and we love using those in place of tortillas and really doesn’t have much of a taste difference.

  1. Some tweeks that might even make this easier or better are to use whipped cream cheese mixed with a little ranch dressing or some dry ranch dressing mix. I think they might have dill-flavored ranch mix as well. You could also buy the diced ham and rinse it in a colander under water to eliminate some of the salt. You could also try to substitute dill relish for the dill pickles and drain well before adding to the cream cheese, or use both relish and chopped pickles. I don’t like chopping things, so I am always looking for a faster or easier way. I think dill pickle wraps will be my next appetizer to take some place. Thanks for the idea!

  2. I have to chuckle at “spell check/auto correct”. Don’t dice “your hand”. lol I’m still going to give this a try and only dice the ham. πŸ˜‰
