Creamy, crunchy and full of flavor these Pickle Dip Pinwheels are full of cream cheese, sliced ham and diced pickles. The perfect party appetizer.
I’m not sure if it is a midwest thing but Pickle Rollups are huge around here, along with Pickle Dip. Now we love both, but sometimes you just want to switch it up a little bit.
So that is exactly what I did. Pinwheels are one of our favorite party appetizers, we bring them to a lot of gatherings. These Pickle Dip Pinwheels are one of ours, and many of our friends favorite ones.
We also love bringing our Italian Pinwheels along with your Veggie Pizza Pinwheels along as well because they always get good reviews and never have to take any home with us.
WHAT INGREDIENTS DO YOU NEED?
- Cream Cheese
- Ham
- Pickles
- Tortillas
Can you say EASY!
This pinwheel recipe is for all you pickle lovers. When I first shared this with some of my friends they went wild over it. I never really new the whole pickle craze until we started making these.
Now I’m not a plain pickle person, and if I do eat pickles along they have to be dipped in ranch dressing. I know it’s weird, but I love it.
Some of my favorite recipes using pickles:
HOW TO MAKE PICKLE DIP PINWHEELS:
- Dice your ham and pickles in smaller pieces and set aside.
- In medium sized bowl beat your cream cheese until smooth.
- Fold in your diced ham and pickles until combined.
- Spread your mixture evenly among tortillas leaving about 1/2″ on the side and roll up tightly.
- Place on plate and wrap in Saran Wrap and refrigerate for about one hour.
- Remove from refrigerator and slice into about 1″ rounds.
Seriously you guys, these pinwheels are to die for. So my dad isn’t the foodie type of person, like he will just say oh yeah this is good and go about his business.
When I first had him try my Pickle Dip Pinwheels he literally went into detail about how its creamy and the pickles aren’t too tart, etc. It was the best thing ever.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- We like to use Gedney pickle spears, my husband is adamant that they are the best tasting pickles.
- Really dry your pickles before you cut and add them to your cream cheese, it prevents it from being too watery and bleeding into your tortillas or mixture.
- Make sure your cream cheese is at room temperature, makes it easier to combine.
- We use prepackaged sliced ham for this, but you could also use ham chunks for more texture if you would like.
- The longer you refrigerate the better they will hold up when cutting.
- Cut with a serrated knife, I have found that cutting pinwheels with this type of knife makes it so much easier to slice through.
Who knew that there could be so many tips and tricks to such an easy recipe, but these tips and tricks make this pinwheel recipe just that, easy!
I’m not one of those people that want to make things any harder than they need to be, ya know!
So if you are looking for that next appetizer to bring to a party that everyone will ask for the recipe, these Pickle Dip Pinwheels are exactly what you’ve been looking for.

PIN IT FOR LATER!

I havent made them yet but planning on it for tomorrow. BUT I see someone said tortillas got soggy when made the night before? So could I make the ham pickle filling. Keep in frig, then tomorrow spread on the tortillas and cut after an hour? I may try it as its probably too late for an answer? I will let you know.
Tornadough Alli
You absolutely could!

The first time I made these I made just like the recipe listed. The second time I did a block of cream cheese and a tub of onion and chive cream cheese and only 1 cup of pickles and the second time they were even better than the first.
Jessica
I’ve been making these for years. But I add a packet of Hidden Valley Ranch mix to the cream cheese. It will knock your socks off!

Can I make these a day in advance?
Tornadough Alli
You can, just make sure they are kept refrigerated and wrapped in Saran Wrap, they shouldn’t get too soggy, that would be the only issue.
Heather
This was super easy, I had baked a spiral ham and used it for this…my girlfriend LOVED them.
Lauren
Made these for my friends baby shower and they were amazing! Everyone raved about them and they were gone in minutes. Definitely making these again!
Cherri
Love this recipe. The best! Everyone scarfed them up. So easy too.

I’ve always used Buddig Corned Beef for my pickle roll ups. It’s something my family has always done. My mother never used ham, always corned beef. I like the flavor better. And as an adult, I now have a lot of Jewish and Muslim friends so it works out perfectly using the corned beef. I also add some garlic powder to my cream cheese. And I agree…only Gedney pickles!!
I never thought of doing pinwheels… what a great idea! Looking forward to trying that! I am always tasked with pickle roll ups, this looks so much easier!!

Had these at a recent Christmas Party and they were the Bomb! Will be making these all for myself! Lol. Great recipe. The ones I had were made with the Vlasic Zesty Pickles. Awesome

In the ham & pickle pinwheels do you use 2 boxes of cream cheese?
Tornadough Alli
I do use boxes, but you can use tubs as well, as long as the measurements match up it shouldn’t be a problem.

This was a big hit at my bible study class! The men really liked these.
Wade
These are so great!
Thanks . It’s so easy to make, and my family loves them!
Tornadough Alli
Thanks so much Wade, they really are a family favorite!

My kids absolutely LOVE pickles, so I knew they would love these. I made this to pack in their lunches for school. I made them a little healthier by using 1/3 less fat cream cheese. Pinwheels are always a hit in my kids school lunches. These of course would make excellent appetizers at a party and certainly easy to take to a potluck.

Oh yeah, this is what I’m talking about! I am known as the Queen of Appys in my family. Made these for a graduation party this past weekend and I tripled the recipe. They were all gone within a half hour! I already have requests for the next family gathering to bring these again but I’m going to have to make some for myself at home so I can eat more. Thank you for a wonderful, easy recipe = )

This is so great to hear! It’s the same way around here, we frequently bring these to game night and it’s usually the only appetizer out of all of the ones people bring that never has any taken home!
Carla
These were very good. I made them the night before and the tortilla got alittle soggy. I would make them th day of next time.
Jeremy
We made these for our annual Memorial Day gathering and they went over so well! I didn’t even get to take any home, which I was kind of sad about. Going to make more this week!
Heather
We made these for game night and when i went to get the tray to take home they were all gone! Such a huge hit! Will be making over and over again!
Claudettetipton
Absolutely the best, the easiest and the best tasting appetizer around💕 I am asked to bring it to parties and never bring any home 🏠
Tornadough Alli
That is so good to hear. We adore these, my husband keeps making them like every week, he’s addicted!

I’m going to try this with regular sliced ham and sliced pickles not diced. Will be spreading the cream cheese then laying in ham and then pickles. Should help with moisture. Should give a better over all flavor.

I do a stuffed bread similar but this looks so much easier. I wonder if I added parsley and/or chopped celery would that be good (my bread call so parsley and celery that’s why I wonder). Can’t wait to try this for my next party!!!
Tornadough Alli
If you do the celery I would cut the pickles back and maybe do half celery and half pickles so you dont get too over packed. I think parsley would be good to try, I’ve never done it but if it works well in the bread, I’m sure it would work well in here too!
Mary
I made half of the recipe just to try it for myself. I love herbs and seasons, so I glad some and it came out good. I made it with just 2 tortillas. You can use what ever your family loves to make this.
