Nutella is one of my favorite things on the planet, I can sit there and just eat it out of the jar with a spoon.
When it comes to this Nutella Mug Cake, it really is irresistible. With a fluffy cake, topped with more nutella and powdered sugar – *chefs kiss*.
I love single serving desserts, especially when they include cake. This one is always a late night snack of mine.

HOW TO MAKE A NUTELLA MUG CAKE, STEP BY STEP:
- Spray an 8-ounces mug or larger with cooking spray. Add all 4 ingredients to the mug and stir together until smooth. It will be thick.
- Microwave on full power for 1 minute to 1 minute and 20 seconds.
- Serve with a dollop of Nutella or a sprinkle powdered sugar, if desired.
WHAT SIZE MUG DO I NEED TO USE?
You will want to make sure that you are using at least an 8-ounce mug for this recipe.
The cake will puff up in the mug almost looking like it will flow over, but when it is done cooking it will deflate slightly.
CAN I ADD ANY MIX-INS TO THE MUG CAKE?
Yes! If you want to add a little more flavor you can add some mix-ins if you’d like. Some ideas include:
- Chocolate Chips
- Peanut Butter Chips
- Chopped Nuts
- Candy Pieces
- Toffee Bits
CAN I DOUBLE THIS RECIPE?
Yes, you can double this recipe and then divide between 3 12-ounce mugs. Your cooking time will be closer to 90 seconds.
MY CAKE SEEMS OVERDONE/UNDERDONE WHAT DID I DO WRONG?
Every microwave is just a little different just like every oven. You may need to adjust your cook time.
Check at 1 minute and insert a toothpick. If it comes out clean it is done. If it comes out with uncooked batter on it, heat an additional 20 seconds.
HOW TO STORE:
While we think that Mug Cakes are best eaten when they come directly out of the microwave, you can store them.
Place cake covered in the refrigerator where it will keep for up to 24 hours. To reheat place it in the microwave again for 15-30 seconds until heated through.
We do not recommend freezing.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- Make sure that you are using at least an 8 ounce sized mug.
- If you don’t want to top with more nutella or powdered sugar you do not have to.
- Alternative toppings include whipped topping or ice cream.
- You can add in additions to this recipe, see above for ideas.
- We do not recommend freezing this recipe.
- Let cool for 5 minutes so you donโt burn your mouth when you eat it.
- If you want the sides of your mug to be more clean I suggest either wiping the sides down after mixing or mixing in a small bowl before transferring to a mug. There will still be a small amount of cake on the sides after cooking, but it will look nicer if you wipe it clean.
- You can double this recipe and then divide between 3 12-oz mugs. Your cooking time will be closer to 90 seconds.
When it comes to a single serving dessert you absolutely cannot go wrong with this Nutella Mug Cake.
