Done in under 20 minutes these Chicken Taquitos are a quick and easy dinnertime, snack time or anytime treat that are a little spicy, cheesy and absolutely delicious.
Chicken Taquitos are one of my absolutely favorite Mexican foods ever. Whenever we go out to our favorite Mexican restaurant taquitos are one thing that I always order.
Mexican food is one of those things that gets made at our house more times than not, you’ll have to check out my Carne Asada, Churros or my Slow Cooker Pork Carnitas!
We have been making these taquitos at home for many years now, this was one of my first recipes I ever published on my site and I figured it was a time for a facelift.
These Chicken Taquitos are super easy to whip up and are done in under 20 minutes. They are perfect for snacking alone as an appetizer, or apart of a main dish Mexican meal.
Some of my favorite Mexican style dishes include: Beefy Mexican Rice Soup, White Chicken Enchiladas and this Mexican Pot Roast.
WHY THIS RECIPE WORKS:
- No weird ingredients are included in this recipe, everything can be easily found at your local grocer.
- This can be adapted to add things to your liking to kick it up a notch, an easy basic recipe to adapt.
- Everything is made in one bowl so clean up is a breeze.
Now I’m a flour tortilla type of girl, but you can absolutely make these with corn tortillas, they are more or less the proper way, but it’s more of a personal preference than anything here.
HOW TO MAKE CHICKEN TAQUITOS, STEP BY STEP:
- In bowl add your chicken, cream cheese, sour cream, and cheese.
- Mix together until blended well and the cream cheese is dispersed evenly.
- Grab your tortillas and spread a little bit of the chicken mixture down the center.
- Roll up tightly and place on a plate while you get your pan ready.
- In skillet add a little bit of vegetable oil, just enough to cover the bottom and place a few of your taquitos seam side down into pan and heat about 1-2 minutes per side until golden.
- Remove from pan and stack on plate and serve with your favorite dipping sauce like salsa, ranch, guacamole, etc.
See, these are super simple. I normally eat them as a main dish with a side of Mexican Sour Cream Rice and it is just the perfect meal to me.
CAN THESE BE BAKED?
Absolutely! Prepare the Chicken Taquitos as per the directions and then place on a greased baking sheet. Spray the tortillas with cooking spray or brush with some oil and bake at 425 degrees for about 15-20 minutes until golden and crispy.
See, versatility with this recipe! Baked and modified is how some of the best recipes are made. Sometimes I like to start out with a simple recipe and adapt it according to my mood.
HOW TO FREEZE CHICKEN TAQUITOS:
To freeze before cooking, make them according to directions and then wrap each one individually in plastic wrap and place in a freezer bag where they will keep for up to 4 months. When ready to cook, thaw completely and then cook according to directions.
To cook then freeze, follow directions to make the chicken taquitos and then let cool completely and wrap in plastic wrap individually and place in freezer bag.
To reheat already cooked chicken taquitos, thaw completely and then toss in the microwave for a minute or so to warm through, you can also add a little oil to a pan and crisp them up again.
TAQUITO ADDITIONS:
- Chopped jalapeno
- Hot sauce alongside the salsa
- Chopped hot peppers
- Bacon (oh yes, not very Mexican but still amazing)
- Cilantro, stir in a little to the chicken mixture
There are endless possibilities when it it comes to these Cream Cheese and Chicken Taquitos! Like I said, this is a super basic recipe that you can doctor up to your liking, I love to hear all the ways that people have made these.

I love taquitos, these sound wonderful with the chicken and cream cheese! I’ve never had a garage sale, but once helped run a tag sale, which was indeed exhausting! Thanks for sharing at What’d You Do This Weekend? I hope you will join us again next Monday!
