CAN I USE MEAT IN THIS?
Yes you absolutely can add meat to this, any meat I think would taste good, we have used italian sausage, ground beef, chicken sausage, etc.
We prefer sweet italian sausage in this Baked Tortellini Recipe because it gives a nice sweetness to go along with the peppers.
Make sure you’re meat is fully cooked before adding it to the recipe itself, we usually use about a pound, but you may need to just add a little bit more sauce if adding meat.
You won’t need to much more you just want to make sure that everything is covered evenly so when it bakes up the sauce is still there and hasn’t dried up.
CAN I USE FRESH VEGETABLES?
I do not recommend using fresh vegetables for this recipe. The water content from the frozen vegetables and pasta are needed to cook the pasta.
You can however change up your vegetable mixture, as long as you are using the same amount for this recipe.
DO I HAVE TO USE FROZEN TORTELLINI?
Yes, make sure that your tortellini is frozen for this recipe. It will cook in the sauce mixture.
The water from the frozen tortellini and vegetables also helps this cook up nicely without drying out.
WHAT CAN I SERVE WITH BAKED TORTELLINI?
There are so many things that would be a great side dish to this recipe! Some of our favorites include:
- Garlic Bread
- Breadsticks
- Chopped Salad
- Garlic Cheese Muffins
- Air Fryer Garlic Parmesan Zucchini Fries
- Italian Green Beans
HOW TO STORE:
Place this in an airtight container in the refrigerator where it will keep for up to 4-5 days.
You can freeze this recipe, but I suggest freezing before baking as if you were to freeze after the pasta would become mushy.
To freeze, prepare in a freezer safe baking dish then cover with foil. When you are ready to bake, bake as directed adding about 10-20 minutes to the baking time.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- You can add meat to this recipe if you like, just add a little bit more sauce to compensate for absorption.
- I have never made this with fresh pasta or vegetables and I donโt believe they can be
evenly swapped due to the water content. This dish NEEDS the water from the frozen ingredients in order to cook the pasta properly. - Dish may look slightly dry/sauce doesnโt cover the noodles all the way before baking, this is normal.
- Frozen ravioli could also be used in this recipe.
- 3 cups of homemade marinara sauce could be used instead of store bought.
- An equal amount of minced garlic can be used instead of paste or you could use 1/2 tsp of garlic powder as well.
- This can be frozen, please read notes above on how to do that.
