- You can add some meat for a meatier option.
This Easy Baked Tortellini is one of those meals that make it’s way to our dinner table more often than not. We are a family that is always on the go and this recipe is absolutely perfect for that.
We love serving this with garlic bread, it doesn’t matter if it’s homemade or frozen we just love pasta with garlic bread, it goes together like peanut butter and jelly!
But there are plenty of things you can serve this Baked Tortellini with including Roasted Asparagus, Sensation Salad and these French Bread Dinner Rolls.

HOW TO MAKE BAKED TORTELLINI, STEP BY STEP:
- Pour in the marinara and water and add the seasonings and herbs and stir to combine.
- Add in the frozen tortellini and veggies to your sauce mixture.
- Stir all your ingredients together until evenly combined.
- Sprinkle the cheese over the top of the dish and cover with aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes, remove the aluminum foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes or
until the cheese has melted.
HOW TO STORE:
Since this does contain cheeses this should be refrigerated or eaten within 2 hours of baking. That way it will stay safe and bacteria will not grow.
This will stay good in the refrigerator for 4-5 days properly stored in an airtight container such as a ziploc bag or Tupperware containers.
You can also freeze this recipe after it is baked, especially in the sauce. I would recommend cooking the tortellini without the cheese and then cool to room temp then freeze.
This should keep for about 1-2 months. You can let it defrost in the refrigerator top with cheese and rebake with the cheese on top until cheese is melted.
We freeze our tortellini recipes often, so this shouldn’t be an issue, but we usually eat it in one sitting so we do not usually have to freeze it, but it is possible.
For this Baked Tortellini we like to use frozen tortellini and vegetables, it is required for the water to make the sauce, so that is how we always have used it.
So I highly recommend using that instead of fresh, otherwise it may not turn out the way it shows in the photos. This is how we have always made it.
CAN I USE MEAT IN THIS?
Yes you absolutely can add meat to this, any meat I think would taste good, we have used italian sausage, ground beef, chicken sausage, etc.
We prefer sweet italian sausage in this Baked Tortellini Recipe because it gives a nice heat to go along with the peppers.
Make sure you’re meat is fully cooked before adding it to the recipe itself, we usually use about a pound, but you may need to just add a little bit more sauce if adding meat.
You won’t need to much more you just want to make sure that everything is covered evenly so when it bakes up the sauce is still there and hasn’t dried up.
If you are wanting a super easy dinner/supper recipe this Baked Tortellini is it! It not only whips up super quick it really feeds the whole family.
And like stated before you can double the recipe to serve larger crowds which we have since everyone loves this because the flavor is there and it is just super simple.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- You can add meat to this recipe if you like, just add a little bit more sauce to compensate for absorption.
- I have never made this with fresh pasta or veggies and I don’t believe they can be
evenly swapped due to the water content. This dish NEEDS the water from the frozen
ingredients in order to cook the past properly. - Dish may look slightly dry/sauce doesn’t cover the noodles all the way before baking -this is expected.
- Frozen ravioli could also be used in this recipe.
- 3 cups of homemade marinara sauce could be used instead of store bought.
- An equal amount of minced garlic can be used in stead of paste or you could use 1/2 tsp of garlic powder as well.
- This can be frozen, please read notes above on how to do that.
If you are looking for the perfect meal to feed your family that is not only easy but hearty and delicious then you need to whip up this Baked Tortellini!
