There is nothing like a grabbable snack during the holidays and this Sweet Holiday Chex Mix is just what you need. Fun and minimal ingredients help it come together quick and is also great for gift giving.
I love myself a good snack mix, something that I can just grab from and munch on whenever I want and this Sweet Holiday Chex Mix has been one of my favorites.
With a delicious mix of ingredients this comes together quickly and the sweet coating that covers it all is absolutely irresistible! One snack that you’ll want to make over and over again.
We have been making this for many years to have at parties and to also bag up and give as gifts, people love this stuff and I know exactly why, but you’ll have to taste to find out!
There is a little mix of sweet and salty in it but the sweet is more powerful than the salty with this one, we wanted something a little sweeter so we couldn’t resist.
The best part of this Chex Mix is that all the ingredients are easily available at your local grocer and you don’t need to hunt anything special down.
Easy and readily available? How much better can you get than that…oh delicious! We can’t forget about that big factor in this recipe for sure.
Some of my other favorite holiday treats that we have on our site include: Rum Balls, Brigadeiro and Marshmallow Popcorn Balls.

HOW TO MAKE SWEET HOLIDAY CHEX MIX, STEP BY STEP:
- In an extra large mixing bowl, combine corn chex, rice chex, wheat chex, coconut and pecan halves. Set aside.
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium low heat.
- Add corn syrup, granulated sugar, brown sugar and salt to the saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Once bubbles are forming across the entire surface of the sauce, boil for 3 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and add vanilla extract. Stir to combine.
- Pour the syrup over the dry mix and toss to evenly coat.
- Spread the mix out on parchment paper and allow to cool.
- After cooling, break into bite-sized pieces. Store in an airtight container at room temperature.
DO I HAVE TO USE PECANS?
We think that pecans are a great addition to this recipe because of their flavor and their size but you do not have to use them. Some other options include cashews, almonds or peanuts.
Donโt like nuts or making it for someone with a nut allergy? Pretzels are a great substitution for the pecans. And they will achieve that sweet and salty mix.
CAN I USE DIFFERENT CHEX CEREAL?
While we cover most of the bases with the chex cereal with using three different kinds, you can use 1, 2 or all three. You can also use cinnamon chex as an alternative.
We like using all three because it gives a different variety and flavor, but if you don’t like a certain one you can easily omit it!
HOW TO STORE:
This Holiday Chex Mix can be stored airtight container or ziptop bag at room temperature where it should keep for up to 5 days.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- Make sure that you boil this for the whole 3 minutes, this is essential. This allows the syrup coating to remain soft, but not runny and too sticky.
- You can omit the coconut if you are not a huge coconut fan.
- Different nuts can be used, see my tips above.
- This can be doubled to give as holiday gifts.
- You can use all three chex cereal, or just one or two. We like the variety.
- As the mixture sits, it tends to stick together even after being separated. This is normal and it can easily be separated again for easy snacking.
If you want a fun treat that everyone will be snacking on this holiday season then you need to make this Sweet Holiday Chex Mix.
