Creamy, crunchy and full of flavor these Pickle Dip Pinwheels are full of cream cheese, sliced ham and diced pickles. The perfect party appetizer.
I’m not sure if it is a midwest thing but Pickle Rollups are huge around here, along with Pickle Dip. Now we love both, but sometimes you just want to switch it up a little bit.
So that is exactly what I did. Pinwheels are one of our favorite party appetizers, we bring them to a lot of gatherings. These Pickle Dip Pinwheels are one of ours, and many of our friends favorite ones.
We also love bringing our Italian Pinwheels along with your Veggie Pizza Pinwheels along as well because they always get good reviews and never have to take any home with us.
WHAT INGREDIENTS DO YOU NEED?
- Cream Cheese
- Ham
- Pickles
- Tortillas
Can you say EASY!
This pinwheel recipe is for all you pickle lovers. When I first shared this with some of my friends they went wild over it. I never really new the whole pickle craze until we started making these.
Now I’m not a plain pickle person, and if I do eat pickles along they have to be dipped in ranch dressing. I know it’s weird, but I love it.
Some of my favorite recipes using pickles:
HOW TO MAKE PICKLE DIP PINWHEELS:
- Dice your ham and pickles in smaller pieces and set aside.
- In medium sized bowl beat your cream cheese until smooth.
- Fold in your diced ham and pickles until combined.
- Spread your mixture evenly among tortillas leaving about 1/2″ on the side and roll up tightly.
- Place on plate and wrap in Saran Wrap and refrigerate for about one hour.
- Remove from refrigerator and slice into about 1″ rounds.
Seriously you guys, these pinwheels are to die for. So my dad isn’t the foodie type of person, like he will just say oh yeah this is good and go about his business.
When I first had him try my Pickle Dip Pinwheels he literally went into detail about how its creamy and the pickles aren’t too tart, etc. It was the best thing ever.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- We like to use Gedney pickle spears, my husband is adamant that they are the best tasting pickles.
- Really dry your pickles before you cut and add them to your cream cheese, it prevents it from being too watery and bleeding into your tortillas or mixture.
- Make sure your cream cheese is at room temperature, makes it easier to combine.
- We use prepackaged sliced ham for this, but you could also use ham chunks for more texture if you would like.
- The longer you refrigerate the better they will hold up when cutting.
- Cut with a serrated knife, I have found that cutting pinwheels with this type of knife makes it so much easier to slice through.
Who knew that there could be so many tips and tricks to such an easy recipe, but these tips and tricks make this pinwheel recipe just that, easy!
I’m not one of those people that want to make things any harder than they need to be, ya know!
So if you are looking for that next appetizer to bring to a party that everyone will ask for the recipe, these Pickle Dip Pinwheels are exactly what you’ve been looking for.

are you using regular dill or kosher dill? do you think it would matter which one?
Tornadough Alli
We use just regular dill, but it wouldn’t make a difference at all which one you use.
Joann
Can I put them in the frig over night then take them out and slice
Tornadough Alli
That shouldn’t be a problem whatsoever!
Jeanne
Can you use sweet pickles?
Tornadough Alli
You can use whatever kind of pickle you’d like, we prefer the dill but sweet would be good as well.
Jackie
So if you make a few roll up how long do they last and do they get soggy? I’m just the only one eating them
Tornadough Alli
They dont really get soggy, but we haven’t had them last for too long, just make sure you keep them refrigerated and they should be good 🙂
Sam
Make the cream cheese mixture and store. Then only make a few at a time, in addition, I would imagine the pickle flavor would have had time to infuse the cream cheese.
Joe
I have to chuckle at “spell check/auto correct”. Don’t dice “your hand”. lol I’m still going to give this a try and only dice the ham. 😉
Tornadough Alli
Gotta love auto correct!! I hope you love them as much as you do, with ham of course 😉
Harriet

Some tweeks that might even make this easier or better are to use whipped cream cheese mixed with a little ranch dressing or some dry ranch dressing mix. I think they might have dill-flavored ranch mix as well. You could also buy the diced ham and rinse it in a colander under water to eliminate some of the salt. You could also try to substitute dill relish for the dill pickles and drain well before adding to the cream cheese, or use both relish and chopped pickles. I don’t like chopping things, so I am always looking for a faster or easier way. I think dill pickle wraps will be my next appetizer to take some place. Thanks for the idea!
Barbara
How salty are these…ham is salty and so are dill pickles
Tornadough Alli
Honestly they aren’t that salty, the cream cheese and the tortilla really balances them out.
Ej edens
Sweet pickles or dill?
Tornadough Alli
We use dill for these.
Teresa
What kind of tortillas? Most are high in carbs?
Tornadough Alli
We use regular tortillas, but you can buy mission low carb tortillas which are anywhere from 4-6 carbs per tortilla. There is also some spinach “wraps” I know you can get at Walmart that are very low carb and we love using those in place of tortillas and really doesn’t have much of a taste difference.

These would definitely disappear in a hurry around here. I can’t wait to make them for our next get together!
