A super easy appetizer for gatherings, holidays, game days and more – these Pepperoni Pinwheels are a hit between young and old.
Pinwheels are one of my favorite things to make. There are so many different variations that you can do, these Pepperoni Pinwheels are one of the easiest and favorite.
Appetizers are one of my number one things to make around here and eat. I could eat just appetizers for a whole meal and I’ve stressed that so much on this site.
When you add the addition of a pizza flavor to Pinwheels, then you are entering a whole other level.
These are super easy to put together, the hardest part is chilling them waiting to cut and devour.
We love serving these for everything, it really doesn’t matter the occasion because they are perfect for all of them.
If you’ve been wanting that simple appetizer that can feed a crowd, then you need to make these Pepperoni Pinwheels.
Some of my other favorite appetizer recipes that we have on our site include: Slow Cooker Buffalo Chicken Meatballs, Fried Mushrooms and Pizza Fries.
WHY THIS RECIPE WORKS:
- Easy to find ingredients help these come together in no time.
- You can doctor them up to add more “pizza” toppings if you’d like.
- Easily double this recipe to have more on hand.
INGREDIENTS NEEDED (FULL RECIPE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE POST):
Large flour tortillas
Cream cheese
Mozzarella cheese
Freshly grated parmesan cheese
Pepperoni
Italian seasoning
Garlic powder
Marinara or pizza sauce, for dipping
HOW TO MAKE PEPPERONI PINWHEELS, STEP BY STEP:
- Add cream cheese to a mixing bowl and with a hand or stand mixer, beat until creamy.
- Add mozzarella and parmesan cheese and seasonings, then beat until combined.
- Lay tortillas out on a clean work surface. Spread cream cheese mixture evenly over the tortillas.
- Add a single layer of pepperoni overlapping slightly over the cream cheese mixture.
- Roll up tightly, starting from one end, to the other until it forms a tube shape.
- Wrap tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
- Remove from the refrigerator, carefully unwrap from plastic wrap, and slice into 1-inch-wide slices and serve with marinara or pizza sauce for dipping if desired.
WHAT OTHER PIZZA TOPPINGS CAN I ADD?
You can add your favorite pizza toppings in step 4 after you add the pepperoni slices, so ideas include:
- Cooked and crumbled italian sausage
- Sliced olives
- Pineapple
- Jalapenos
- Diced onions
- Green peppers
CAN I USE SOMETHING OTHER THAN FLOUR TORTILLAS?
Yes, you can use wheat tortillas as well. You can also use your favorite wraps such as spinach or sun-dried tomato etc.
There are various flavors and options out there if you want to try out different things.
HOW CAN I MAKE THESE TASTE EVEN MORE LIKE PIZZA?
If you don’t want to use just the marinara or pizza sauce for dipping you can actually add a few Tablespoons of it to the cream cheese mixture.
This will give you that cream cheese, cheese, but also a hint of the sauce flavor in each and every pinwheel.
HOW LONG DO THESE NEED TO CHILL?
We recommend that you chill these for at least 1 hour, this will make everything stick together better and make it easier to cut.
HOW TO STORE:
Place your pinwheels in an airtight container and keep them in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
These can also freeze these, I like to flash freeze these and place them in a freezer safe container with parchment paper between layers so they donโt all get stuck together and they will last for up to 3 months.
Defrost in the refrigerator overnight until thawed, you can just grab as much as youโd like and defrost that way and serve.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- Easily double this recipe to serve more people or to store for later.
- These can be frozen, see above on how to do that.
- Other additions can be added to the filling, see above on ideas.
- Use wheat tortillas, or spinach/sun-dried tomato wraps, etc for these.
- These need to chill for at least 1 hour.
- I suggest cutting with a serrated knife, we have always had the best results when using.
When it comes to an easy and tasty appetizer, you cannot go wrong with these Pepperoni Pinwheels. Tasty, fun and great for all occasions.
