WHY THIS RECIPE WORKS:
- With basic ingredients these are quick to put together.
- You can double them for larger gatherings or to have more.
- You can use any kind of tortilla flavor that you like.
INGREDIENTS NEEDED (FULL RECIPE AT BOTTOM):
Cream cheese
Sour cream
Hot sauce
Worcestershire sauce
Cheddar cheese
Ham
Green onion
Tortillas
HOW TO MAKE MISSISSIPPI SIN DIP PINWHEELS, STEP BY STEP:
- In a large bowl, whip the cream cheese with an electric hand mixer until smooth.
- Add the sour cream, hot sauce, and Worcestershire sauce and mix in on low until smooth, scrape down the sides as needed.
- Add the cheddar cheese, diced ham, and scallion, fold it in until combined.
- On a clean work surface, place one of the flour tortillas. Smear 1/4th of the mixture on top of the tortilla, making sure there is a half-inch border around the perimeter of the tortilla. Starting at the bottom of the tortilla, roll the tortilla to form a log, you want to do it so it is tight but not so tight that the tortilla will break apart when rolling.
- Take a large piece of plastic wrap and wrap the tortilla up in the plastic wrap tightly. Tuck the edges of the plastic wrap under to form a package. Repeat with the remaining tortillas and filling.
- Place the rolls into the fridge for at least 4 hours or even better overnight. This will help the rolls to set and keep their shape.
- Unwrap the rolls and cut them into about ½ inch slices. Serve immediately with more hot sauce for dipping, optional.

WHAT IS MISSISSIPPI SIN DIP?
Traditional Mississippi Sin Dip is a dip made of the same ingredients as these Pinwheels minus the tortillas so cream cheese, sour cream, ham, cheddar, hot sauce and Worcestershire sauce.
Usually the dip itself is mixed together and then baked into a loaf of bread and then bread slices, chips or crackers are used to consume the dip.
We decide to go a different route with the dip and turn them into pinwheels instead, which was the best decision on person could ever make.
Not only do you not have to worry about keeping them warm, they are already hand held bite sized flavorful appetizers you can eat.
We just simplified it and changed it up a little bit but still kept the original flavors from the dip itself within this Pinwheel Recipe.
Just look at these Pinwheels! I mean you can see all the goodness inside and you will not miss any flavor at all, you get it in each and every bite!
WHAT SUBSTITUTIONS CAN I MAKE?
While we like it the way it is you can swap things in the recipe itself some ideas will include:
- Diced onion instead of green onion.
- Whipped cream cheese vs regular.
- Deli ham chopped up instead of a thicker slab of ham diced.
- Any fat of cream sour cream.
- If you’re not a fan of the Worcestershire sauce you can leave that out.
- Any hot sauce will do for this recipe, but it is a needed ingredient to make it taste like the dip.
These are some of the substitutions that we have made over the years, so really use what you have on hand, they are delicious with any of these.
HOW TO STORE PINWHEELS:
These can be stored in an airtight container or ziptop bag either cut or uncut in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days. You will run the risk of the tortilla getting soggy.
TIPS AND TRICKS ON MAKING PINWHEELS:
- If you like more spice I suggest adding 1 teaspoon of red pepper flakes or more hot sauce.
- You can use any tortilla flavor you like as long as they are burrito sized.
- You can use freshly shredded cheddar cheese or bagged for this, cheddar is what we go with but you can use your favorite cheese but it won’t taste the same.
- To easily cut these I recommend using a serrated knife.
- These need to chill for at least 4 hours, this helps them hold up and the flavors to marry and have them be easier to cut.
If you are looking for that perfect appetizer that no one will be able to turn down and keep asking for more then you need these Mississippi Sin Dip Pinwheels!
