HOW TO MAKE INSTANT POT SPAGHETTI, STEP BY STEP:
- Pour spaghetti sauce, crushed tomatoes, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper and sugar into a large bowl and combine. Set this mixture aside.
- Add the olive oil to your instant pot and set the function to sautรฉ. Break up the ground beef and add it to the oil. As it browns, use a hard spatula or wooden spoon to stir and break up the meat so that you donโt have any large chunks. Cook the beef completely through. Turn off the sautรฉ function. Drain excess fat from the pot.
- Pour the 2 cups of water over the cooked ground beef.
- Break handfuls of the spaghetti in half and place it on top of the water. Criss-cross and spread out the handfuls so that the spaghetti is not in a big clump.
- Then, spoon the spaghetti sauce mixture over the noodles until they are completely covered. We want liquid above and below the spaghetti. Press the spaghetti down a little under the sauce if there is still some uncovered after adding the sauce.
- Do not stir. The sugar from the sauce needs to stay above the bottom of the post while cooking, otherwise it will crystallize and begin to burn.
- Seal the pressure cooker and set the time for 8 minutes on HIGH.
- When the cook time is done, use the quick release. When the pressure is released, give the spaghetti a thorough stir to mix together all the ingredients.
- Leave the lid off and allow it to sit for a few minutes before serving so the sauce can thicken.
CAN I USE ANOTHER MEAT?
Absolutely, you could use ground Italian sausage, ground turkey or ground chicken even if you prefer. We love mixing together ground beef and ground italian sausage.
CAN I ADD VEGETABLES?
If you are a vegetable lover then you can absolutely do that! You could dice up some green peppers, onion, celery, carrots, zucchini, or mushrooms.
We add vegetables from time to time and we like to saute them with the ground beef, but you don’t have to saute them you can just add them to the pressure cooker.
We just like to have them softer so that is why we add them when we are cooking our ground beef.
SHOULD I STIR THE PASTA BEFORE SEALING?
NO! Your pasta will have a nicer texture if you do not stir it before cooking. Stirring it will lead to a gummier texture and can cause burning. Wait until after it is cooked to stir it.
HOW TO STORE:
This can be stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container where it will keep for up to 3-4 days.
This can also be frozen, place cooled spaghetti in a freezer bag and it will keep in the freezer for up to 3 months.
Let defrost overnight in the refrigerator and you can warm it up in the microwave before eating.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- We like to break the spaghetti noodles so they fit into the instant pot.
- Make sure to crisscross these, it will help them not clump together after they are cooked and will cook all the way through.
- Any of your favorite pasta sauces will work for this recipe!
- This can be frozen, see my tips above.
- If you like vegetables, those can be added, see above for some ideas.
- Serve this with your favorite garlic bread or side salad, etc.
- Whole wheat pasta can be substituted.
