This Bourbon Chicken is full of flavors, but the kicker is that it’s not actually made with bourbon! I bet you didn’t know that. The name actually comes from the location that the recipe itself originated and that was on bourbon street. So hence the name bourbon, but without bourbon.
I’m sure there are some recipes out there that you will find that actually does have bourbon in them, but this one does not. The flavors are a sweet and spicy mixture that really play well together. It is delicious served over rice or noodles or both.
The sauce that this chicken is in is a mixture or apple juice, soy sauce, brown sugar, ginger, garlic and a few others. If those don’t already sound delicious together then I’m sorry this recipe is NOT for you!
I make this recipe also as Bourbon Shrimp that is really popular in our household when we are feeling like having a seafood night. My kids especially like that one because they are really big on seafood whereas I am not.

Instead of using apple juice, which I never have in the house, would I able to substitute it with apple cider? Would that make it too acidic?

I just made the recipe using frozen chicken breasts and I am beyond impressed! I added some ginger paste and apple juice and didnโt use the full amount of honey. Rice is cooking on the stove right now. Canโt wait to dig in!
