WHAT MAKES BROWNIES FUDGY?
Brownies get their fudginess from the higher fat content than traditional cake-like brownies.
Cook times also impact your brownie consistency. Fudgy brownies usually have less cook time than traditional brownies.
WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FUDGE BROWNIES AND REGULAR BROWNIES?
Fudge Brownies have more butter and chocolate chips than regular ones do. They are richer and have a thicker texture and tend to have more butter and some recipes include oil to increase the fat to flour ratio.
Regular brownies are more cake-like and are much thinner. They also tend to have a higher flour amount.
ARE FUDGE BROWNIES UNDERCOOKED?
While you may think they look undercooked because they’re so smooth and fudge-like looking, they’re cooked perfectly. They’ll have a gooey texture that you’ll fall in love with. The ingredients used help give them that decadent, thick, ooey gooey texture.
Remember that brownies will continue to cook a bit from the heat in the baking pan when you pull them out of the oven.
HOW TO TELL WHEN BROWNIES ARE DONE?
There are a few ways to tell when your brownies are done. When making fudgy brownies, this is something you want to be aware of so you don’t over bake your brownies.
First, you can use the toothpick method. This involves sticking a clean toothpick in the center of the brownie pan.
If it comes out clean, they’re done. If it comes out with runny, gooey brownie batter on it, they still need a bit longer in the oven.
You can also tell if your brownies are done by looking at them. This is even more important when making Fudge Brownies.
You want the edges to start crisping up and start to pull away from the sides of the pan and the center of the brownie pan to still have a little give in it.
HOW TO STORE:
These Fudge Brownies can be stored in an airtight container on the countertop where they will keep for up to 5 days.
You can also freeze these, once they’ve cooled and you’ve removed them from the pan, wrap them in plastic wrap and then aluminum foil and place in an freezer container bag. These will keep in the freezer for up to 3 months.
To thaw these, place them in the refrigerator overnight or until they’re no longer frozen, you can remove to countertop to bring to room temperature.
Keep in mind that freezing and then thawing brownies may slightly alter their texture.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- Use a metal or dark colored baking pan. Lighter baking pans let the bottom cook faster and you’ll end up with a harder bottom to your brownies.
- Mix in all the different nuts, candies, chocolate chips, etc to create the ultimate brownie with a slight crunch from the goodies.
- Don’t over bake your brownies, see my tips above to know when they are done.
- Using hot melted butter helps create the perfect cracked tops for your treats.
- This recipe can be cut in half and made in a 9×9-inch baking pan.
- These can be frozen, seem my tips above on how to do that.
- Frost these with any of your favorite frosting for another layer of flavor.
