This delicious Fruit Salad Recipe is full of all the delicious fruits you can imagine, then all glazed with a sweet citrus and honey glaze that brings it all together.
Fruit is one of my favorite things. If I could eat fruit all day long I would, this Fruit Salad Recipe is one of our favorite spring and summer treats that we make all the time.
My kids are absolutely fruit obsessed, but instead of buying all different kinds for them to munch on we often make this recipe so they can have it all at once in one bowl.
We absolutely love it, also it’s the perfect sweet side dish to bring to any of your get togethers that gives people a fun and healthier option to munch on instead of some desserts.
This Fruit Salad Recipe is very versatile as you can really swap out for any of your favorite fruits, but we include a lot of different ones in here so we pretty much have you covered in that aspect!
If you are a fruit lover and have a bunch around all the time like we do, then this recipe is a must make! Super tasty and one that will become a staple.
Some of our other favorite fruity recipes that we have on our site include Easy Fruit Pizza, Easy Fruit Tart and Strawberry Dumplings.
WHY THIS RECIPE WORKS:
- It is very versatile being able to use any fruit that you like.
- You can double the recipe for larger gatherings.
- The lime and honey dressing adds a nice pop of freshness to the salad.
INGREDIENTS NEEDED (FULL RECIPE AT BOTTOM):
Pineapple chunks
Mandarin oranges
Strawberries,
Kiwi
Medium bananas
Green seedless grapes
Red seedless grapes
Blueberries
Honey
Lime juice
Lime zest
HOW TO MAKE A FRUIT SALAD RECIPE, STEP BY STEP:
- In a very large mixing bowl, add the pineapple oranges, strawberries, kiwi, bananas, grapes, and blueberries, and set it aside.
- In a small mixing bowl, whisk together the dressing, using honey, lime juice, and lime zest.
- Pour the homemade dressing over the fruit and toss to combine so everything is coated in the dressing. Serve immediately and enjoy.
DO I HAVE TO USE THE DRESSING?
Literally, I can’t get enough of the honey lime dressing on this, I would eat it with a spoon it’s just that good. It really makes all the flavors come together.
It is very refreshing and that little lime zing and sweetness from the honey pairs perfectly with all the fruit.
Of course, you can forgo the dressing if you just want fruit in a bowl, but I highly encourage you to make the dressing as I feel that it is what really makes this recipe what it is.
WHAT OTHER FRUITS CAN I USE?
Add, substitute, or do whatever you like with the fruits I used and shared in the ingredient list, my only comment would be to keep it at the same ratio of fruit so the dressing will be enough to coat everything.
Some other ideas if you want to switch it up include:
- Melon (watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew)
- Mango
- Other colored grapes
- Raspberries
Pretty much anything you like, you can put in here, we have a lot of different fruits in here so you can absolutely omit and add more of one than another as well.
CAN I USE CANNED FRUITS?
I like to use canned pineapple and mandarin oranges because most everybody already has these on hand, especially with kids. If you want to use fresh fruit, go for it!
CAN I MAKE THIS AHEAD OF TIME?
You can make this ahead of time, put it together, and cover and refrigerator for an hour before serving. Just wait to add the bananas until you’re ready to serve or omit them since they’re always the first fruit to start turning and browning.
HOW TO STORE THIS FRUIT SALAD RECIPE:
This recipe can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days in the refrigerator. I suggest that if you are storing it and not eating it right away you may omit the bananas.
Bananas will brown if they are sitting too long and you don’t want brown bananas in this or eat them when they have become that way, so it is best to serve fresh or omit the bananas if storing.
I do not recommend freezing this Fruit Salad.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- This recipe is very forgiving. If you prefer to leave out/add certain fruits, feel free too especially if theyโre in season! Also feel free to change up the measurements provided.
- Add a drizzle of honey on top for a gorgeous glistening presentation!
- The bananas are usually the first to โturnโ but the dressing acts as a preserve so it helps keep the bananas from turning brown as fast!
- The honey acts as a โsweetenerโ to help offset fruits that may be a bit tart. But if you find that the fruit salad is still tart, you can mix in 1 tsp of brown sugar with an additional tsp of orange juice and pour/stir in with fruit salad to add a touch more sweetness.
- These are some of our favorite fruits that we really like in this salad, but like I said, use whatever you like.
- We oftentimes switch it up depending on the season and make a winter fruit salad as well, but this spring and summer version is by far my favorite or them all.
- If you are storing Fruit Salad leftovers, or if this is sitting out at a party, I suggest gently tossing the salad every so often because the dressing has the tendency to drain to the bottom of the bowl. Tossing it will help it stay fully coated.
