Want to take your breakfast game up a notch? Then this easy and delicious Crunchy French Toast is what you need!
I’m an absolute French Toast lover, it is what I really grew up on and what we make all the time at our house.
But have you ever heard of Crunchy French Toast? I know there are varieties out there, but this version is one of mine and my families favorites.
You start off with a nice thick piece of texas toast, coat that in your egg batter, then coat that in your crushed up Corn Flakes and fry it up, add some powdered sugar and syrup and OMG.
Seriously though, the texture is really fun and the flavor is great. I love the crunch that the cornflakes add to this recipe, and I think you will too.
Also, a little goes a long ways! One piece is enough for me, but I have 3 teenage boys who of course need more than that.
This recipe is so easy to double, and even switch up a little bit which I’ll tell you more about below.
If you want a fun and tasty twist to your breakfast, then you absolutely need to add this Crunchy French Toast to your menu.
Some of our other favorite breakfast recipes that we have on our site include: Banana Sheet Pan Pancakes, Egg in a Hole and Chocolate Nutella Muffins.

- Add corn flakes to a separate shallow dish or bowl, set aside.
- Dip both sides of each slice of bread into egg mixture, then into corn flakes, pressing down firmly, then set aside on a sheet pan.
- Add butter to skillet, then preheat over medium heat.
- Cook each side of French Toast for 3 minutes or until golden brown, remove to the sheet pan.
- Dust French Toast slices with powdered sugar, then serve with warmed maple syrup.
WHAT OTHER CEREAL CAN I USE IN PLACE OF THE CORN FLAKES?
If you want to switch up the crunchy outside, there is so many other fun cereals that you can use. Some of our favorites include:
- Frosted Flakes
- Fruity Pebbles
- Cocoa Pebbles
- Cinnamon Toast Crunch
- Honey Bunches of Oats
- Captain Crunch
Really you can try anything that you like! I really like more of the flake cereal for this recipe as it sticks better, but feel free to experiment!
DO I HAVE TO USE TEXAS TOAST?
For the heft of this recipe, I really do suggest a thicker slice of bread. Texas Toast is not necessary but do use thick.
Some of other thicker breads include: Brioche, Challah, Country, etc. Just find one thick enough that it will not fall apart.
WHAT CAN I TOP THIS CRUNCHY FRENCH TOAST WITH?
While we do powdered sugar and maple syrup, there are other things you can top it with as well. Some include:
- Whipped Cream
- Chocolate Syrup
- Melted Peanut Butter
- Marshmallow Fluff
- Fruits
- Powdered Sugar Glaze
If you want to stray from the original, these are some fun toppings that you can use.
HOW FINE SHOULD I CRUSH MY CORN FLAKES?
This is really a personal preference, depending on how “crunchy” you want them and how large.
But keep in mind the larger the flakes, the less likely they are to stick. We say coarsely ground. We do not want them in a fine powder.
Broken up enough that they are roughly the size of rice krispies or oats!
HOW TO STORE:
This can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator where it will keep for up to 2-3 days.
I do not recommend freezing this recipe as it will change the texture and make the outside soggy.
To reheat, place in the microwave or in the oven until heated through and serve.
