Want an easy, minimal ingredient breakfast recipe the kids will love? These Chocolate Chip Pancakes are effortless, tasty and absolutely flavorful!
Pancakes are one of my kids favorite breakfast meals. Breakfast is actually one of their favorite things ever so we regularly make it for dinner, or shall we say “brinner”.
If you want to know how much we love pancakes, you can check out these Blueberry Pancakes, Oatmeal Pancakes and one of my personal favorites, Banana Pancakes.
There is something about Chocolate Chip Pancakes that brings me back to my childhood. My mom regularly added mix-ins and this was one she always knew that I liked and just have always made it since.
WHY THIS RECIPE WORKS:
- Pancakes are a super easy recipe that use basic pantry ingredients that are usually on hand at any given moment.
- This recipe can easily be doubled or tripled, depending on how many mouths you want to feed.
- The addition of chocolate chips (or anything else) really give a new depth of flavor to the pancakes themselves.
So for this recipe, my kids really enjoy the taste of milk chocolate chips so we like to use them, but semi-sweet or even dark chocolate chips work wonders with this.
The chocolate chips slightly melt while cooking, so you get gooey melted chocolate in each and every bite, something that really is hard to resist!
HOW TO MAKE CHOCOLATE CHIP PANCAKES, STEP BY STEP:
In bowl whisk together flour, baking powder, salt and sugar until combined. In another bowl whisk together milk, egg, butter and vanilla (Photos 1-4).
Fold in your wet ingredients into your dry ingredients until just combined, batter may be lumpy and that is ok. Gently fold in your chocolate chips and let the batter rest for about 5 minutes (Photos 5-8).
Heat a non-stick skillet on stove over medium-high heat and spray with non-stick cooking spray.Pour or scoop the batter onto the pan in 1/4 cup measurements, gently spread the batter out some then cook on each side for about 3-4 minutes until you see bubbles forming on top of batter and the underside is golden (Photo 9).
Flip until browned on other side, remove to plate to repeat until all batter is used.
This recipe is fail-proof. For the longest time, I had doubts about making pancakes, more or less about flipping the pancakes actually.
If you have a good pancake spatula then you shouldn’t have any issues. I still slightly tip my pan at an angle when I flip my pancakes (habit). But I have built my pancake confidence up for many years.
This Chocolate Chip Pancake recipe is seriously just so so so tasty. We eat it with a variety of syrups such as plain maple, chocolate and even sometimes melted peanut butter that we drizzle over it.
There really is no wrong way to eat these chocolate chip pancakes, this for sure!

Now I’m not the biggest lover of butter on my pancakes, but my kids think it is essential so we always add a pat on top. I’ve been coming around to it slowly but surely.
TIPS AND TRICKS FOR MAKING CHOCOLATE CHIP PANCAKES:
- Whisk dry ingredients and wet ingredients separately and then mix together until just combined, we do not want to over-mix the batter.
- Letting the batter sit for about 5 minutes gives time for the gluten to rest, resulting in pancakes that aren’t chewy and more fluffy.
- You can use any type of chocolate chips you like in this recipe, we prefer milk, but semi-sweet, dark and even mini chocolate chips work wonder.
- We like to spray our pan with non-stick cooking spray rather than melting butter into the pan, I feel that it cooks more even.
- Gently spread the batter out when pouring into pan, the batter isn’t super runny so it won’t spread as easily, so you need a little encouragement to get it larger.
- We don’t have any issues with chocolate chips sinking in the batter, but if you do have issues, just toss it in a little bit of flour before folding into batter.
If you want that perfect breakfast recipe that is quick, easy and everyone seems to love, then you need to whip up these Chocolate Chip Pancakes as soon as possible!

Absolutely delicious. My grandchildren loved them. I was out of choc chips so I improvised with some Hershey milk chocolate which I broke up into smaller bits. Definitely my new pancake recipe. Recipe also easy to follow.
Saskia

These pancakes turned out amazing! My only problem was that they were a little dry. Although in the beginning, they quickly burnt and were misshapen, but when i turned the heat down a bit, they looked (and tasted!) awesome. Even the burnt ones tasted good. I was surprised at how good they tasted, since i have 0 cooking skill and I’ve never made pancakes. Would recommend.
