Want one of your favorite takeout items at home? This Copycat Sausage Egg McMuffin is seriously tasty, filling and everyone absolutely loves them.
They say that breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day and I agree. Although I’m more of a coffee in the morning kind of gal I cant resist this Copycat Sausage Egg McMuffin recipe!
My kids are absolutely addicted to them, they request them all the time and obviously I oblige because I’m kinda sorta addicted to them as well.
While the McMuffin is a registered trademark of McDonald’s, we had to learn to make them at home, because we don’t always have access to fast food.
Some of our other favorite breakfast recipes that we make include Easy Croissant Breakfast Sandwiches, Tater Tot Breakfast Casserole and Ham and Cheese Quiche!
WHY THIS RECIPE WORKS:
- Minimal ingredients help make this recipe come together quickly.
- You can make homemade patties for eggs and sausage or use store bought.
- One sandwich is enough to fill a person up but you can adjust the recipe super easy.
So there are two specialty tools that we use for this recipe, we use a large biscuit cutter and an egg ring. Are they absolutely necessary to make this recipe? No.
Do they help, yes! We like to use the largest sized biscuit cutter for our sausage because we want to make it a little larger than the English muffins themselves because sausage shrinks.
The egg ring helps make the perfect circular sized egg patties that you see when you get this sandwich at your favorite restaurant.
But like I said, they are not necessary, but they do help speed along the process a little bit, and speeding things along is always my favorite thing.
HOW TO MAKE SAUSAGE EGG MCMUFFINS, STEP BY STEP:
- Separate your sausage into 6 sections and using a large 3ish inch biscuit cutter press your portions into the center of the ring to flatten out on parchment paper then cook in skillet until browned and cooked through.
- Meanwhile toast your English muffins, place on cutting board or counter.
- Place one slice of cheese on bottom of each English muffin.
- Top each slice of cheese with cooked sausage patty, set aside or in oven on a low temperature to keep warm.
- Next in a small bowl scramble one egg at a time and spray a cooking pan with non-stick cooking spray and pour your egg into egg mold, cover and cook on medium heat until egg is cooked through.
- Finish your sandwiches by topping with egg patties and other slice of English muffin and serve.
Like I said you can completely make this recipe easier by buying homemade breakfast patties and egg patties, but nothing is better than making them yourself.
Yes they take a little bit longer on the time, but it is well worth it in my personal opinion, and I hope that you’ve gotten to trust that over these years!
CAN I FREEZE THESE?
Yes you can absolutely freeze these. We used to always buy pre-frozen breakfast sandwiches so these Sausage Egg McMuffins freeze just the same as those do.
To freeze, assemble per the directions and then wrap each in parchment paper or tinfoil and place in a ziptop bag, they should stay good for about 1 month.
To reheat you can simply and wrap in a paper towel and place in the microwave and defrost for about 1 minute then heat for about 60 seconds until everything is warmed through.
We make a lot of these at one time, because we love to have them around anytime we are craving something quick for breakfast, the boys especially like heating these up.
It also saves us money on buying the boxed ones, which there is absolutely no shame in saving money at all! And hands down they just taste better.
You can switch up your meats on these Sausage Egg McMuffins to give a little variance on flavors if you wish! We have made them with bacon and Canadian bacon and they taste just as great.
Now I’m a personal fan of the sausage, but whatever your topping flavor choice is then you go with that, who am I to tell you what to do!
