Give me cheese, give me bacon and give me fries and I’m set. Add anything else and it is just a bonus. These Loaded Fries have all those good things wrapped into one.
I’m not exactly how to qualify this recipe, side dish, main dish, appetizer? You can pretty much make these for any mealtime dish that you please.
I know that we make them a lot and we use a lot of different toppings each time we do make them but the combo I have here today is our go-to. But another one of our favorite fry combos is Poutine!
WHY THIS RECIPE WORKS:
- Only a few ingredients are needed to whip this up in no time.
- You can top it with whatever toppings you like.
- It is the perfect recipe to satisfy your cheesy craving.
I think we’ve been making loaded fries no since my oldest was probably 9. He is no 15 and he really got us hooked on them. They would make them at school, with an actual cheese sauce, but we prefer melted shredded cheese instead.
So he would always ask for them and they just became apart of the family dinner rotation or snack rotation. My kids make them on their own which is nice.
I love having the kids in the kitchen and this recipe doesn’t require a lot of actual cooking experience so it is an easy one for them to easily whip up or teach them to cook.
HOW TO MAKE LOADED FRIES, STEP BY STEP:
- Add your French fries to baking sheet and bake according to package.
- Once baked transfer your French fries to a 9″-10″ cast iron skillet.
- Place shredded cheese all over fries.
- Place back in oven and bake until cheese is melted and then top with your favorite toppings.
How easy are these?! Like I said before you can use any toppings you like. Our go-to toppings for these Loaded Cheesy Fries are cheese, bacon, green onions, jalapeno slices and sour cream.
WHAT CAN I TOP THESE FRIES WITH?
Like I stated before there are a multiple of toppings for cheesy fries. But the one smile main ingredient to top them with is cheese, we use cheddar but you can use whatever you’d like! Some other ideas include:
- Tomatoes
- Chili
- Onions
- Black olives
- Avocado
- Ground beef
- Shredded chicken
Whatever you love together, it will go good on these Loaded Fries for sure.
Now one thing that I swear by for this recipe is using freshly shredded cheese from the block. I recommend that because it melts easiest.
You can use a cheese sauce and that won’t require you to place back in the oven, but we don’t always have that on hand, and we don’t always want to take the extra steps to make it.
Using the freshly shredded cheese is the easiest and quickest option for us.
You can also deep fry your French fries if you feel like your oven doest give you the crispness that you like. We bake again, because it’s easier.
WHAT GOES WELL WITH LOADED FRIES?
I can literally eat this as a meal in itself, but we regularly make it as a side dish to other things. We love to serve alongside burgers, hot dogs and even to admit chili.
There is something about having a side of cheese fries with chili that is so comforting, and yes chili is a year round dish so don’t think that since it’s spring chili is off the board because it is definitely not!
Trust me you will want to make these Loaded Fries ASAP. They are one of the fastest and most addicting recipes around, don’t quote me on that…quote my kids!
They agree with me on loving cheese and bacon together, I mean who doesn’t! It is just delicious together hands down.
