If you are looking for a quick and easy dinnertime recipe that takes easy, minimal ingredients and less than 30 minutes then you need to whip up this Cast Iron Skillet Pizza.
Pizza is kind of a big deal around our house. Usually we order out, because I really am not the biggest fan of making my own dough.
I know it’s the lazy man’s supper but I mean it is what it is. Usually our local grocer keeps fresh pizza dough on hand, but lately we haven’t been able to find it.
So when we do make our own “homemade” or shall I say semi-homemade version of pizza we usually use refrigerated pizza dough.
But like I have reiterated in my posts before, I love quick and easy meals in this house and this Cast Iron Skillet Pizza is just that, quick and easy.
WHY THIS RECIPE WORKS:
- Store bought refrigerated dough makes this whip up in no time.
- With some cheese, sauce, some seasonings and pepperoni, it whips up in not time.
- This can easily be adjusted for your topping tastes.
Seriously, this Cast Iron Skillet Pizza is one of the easiest pizzas you will ever make, and the fact that it is baked a cast iron skillet is my favorite part.
HOW TO MAKE CAST IRON SKILLET PIZZA, STEP BY STEP:
- Preheat your oven to 475 degrees F. Lightly grease your skillet with some olive oil, press your pizza dough onto bottom and up the sides of skillet as much as you can.
- Spread your pizza sauce over your crust, you can use your own homemade or jarred sauce.
- Top with shredded mozzarella cheese, garlic powder and oregano.
- Top with your pepperoni slices then, brush your crust with olive oil. Bake in oven for 15-17 minutes until crust is golden and cheese is melted.
I mean how much easer can you get than this Cast Iron Skillet Pizza? It is a super fun and one of the easiest recipes around, not to mention tasty.
We like quick, easy and simple around this house as you can see and this pizza checks off all of those marks.
Some of our other favorite pizzas or pizza themed recipes include Bubble Up Pizza, Supreme Pizza One Pot Pasta and Jalapeรฑo Popper Pizza.
Pretty much anything pizza flavor really flies in your house, it’s just one of those flavors that you can add to a lot of things and instantly love.
CAN THIS BE MADE IN A LARGER SKILLET:
Yes, we use a 9.5″ in cast iron skillet for this Skillet Pizza but it can be made in a 12″ skillet as well, but you will need more dough.
The refrigerated dough that we use is just over 13 oz, so you will need at least 1lb of dough, so you can either use a homemade dough version or just use more refrigerated pizza dough.
WHAT TOPPINGS CAN I USE?
The best part of this Cast Iron Skillet Pizza Recipe is that the topping additions and variations are endless. Some ideas include:
- BBQ Sauce, chicken, red onion.
- Supreme.
- Sausage, mushrooms and black olives.
- Pepperoni or Canadian Bacon and Pineapple (yes pineapple belongs on pizza lol).
- White sauce with chicken.
Seriously, whatever your favorite pizza toppings you love can be added to this pizza or sure, there is on limit, this is just my basic recipe.
This has become one of my kids favorite recipes ever! They request it so much and it is one of the perfect lunch recipes that we make because it’s so quick and easy.
I wish I could call it homemade, one day I’ll get there in not being so lazy and make my own dough (I have, but I hate the waiting).
But in the meat time, the way the dough cooks in the cast iron skillet really makes this pizza super delicious and makes the recipe itself super easy.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- Just lightly grease your cast iron skillet with olive oil, you don’t want an over abundance or the dough itself will not stretch.
- If you are using refrigerated dough from a can, we usually roll it into a ball and stretch it a little bit on a flat surface before placing it into the pan to stretch to fit.
- As noted above there are so many different recipes you can create with this Cast Iron Skillet Pizza recipe that the choices are endless.
- You can use freshly shredded, bagged shredded or even fresh sliced mozzarella for this recipe, we have tested them all and all came out amazing.
- Press this dough up the sides of the skillet as best as you can, it will like to pull back but keep pulling, eventually it will stay in place.
- To get a nice brown on the crust, brush with that extra olive oil and even a little bit of garlic salt or powder for extra flavor.
