Quick and easy to whip up with minimal ingredients, this Beer Bread is buttery, sweet and absolutely flavorful. One of those recipes you must keep on hand!
If you love simple recipes this Beer Bread is exactly what you need. I have a soft spot for any types of breads, but this is the one I crave the majority of the time.
This is the first bread recipe I learned to make, it was simple, easy, my parents were drinkers so we always had beer around and it was just a fun overall recipe.
Beer Bread is a classic base recipe that can be switched up so much and added to to your liking. If you like the traditional Beer Bread recipe you might also like my Cheddar Beer Bread or just my Cheddar Bread!
WHY THIS RECIPE WORKS:
- Minimal ingredients make this super easy for any baking level.
- Being considered a quick bread where it doesn’t use yeast, the recipe itself is foolproof!
- Easy clean up, with everything being made in one bowl makes this recipe one of peoples favorites because the less amount of dishes.
Like I said, I love me some good bread recipe. As much as I love yeas breads like my popular Oatmeal Molasses Bread I really love savory quick breads the best.
Some of my favorite savory quick breads include: Italian Herb Parmesan, Garlic Cheddar and this Savory Tomato version!
Regardless, I love bread that is ready in about an hour and that doesn’t have to take time to rise. Quick breads are the way to go!

There is a lot of questions when it comes to beer bread and I’m going to try to answer them for you.
HOW DOES BEER BREAD WORK?
The yeast in the beer reacts with the sugar in the recipe which makes it rise, the baking powder gives it a little more oomph so to speak to make it bake up even taller.
It’s the same concept with baking and putting soda/pop in a recipe, it acts as a leveling agent making the baked good rise.
HOW LONG DOES BEER BREAD LAST?
Beer bread should last about 4-5 days when wrapped in plastic wrap and stored in the refrigerator. It loses beer flavor the longer that it sits, so if you want that pronounced beer bread taste, I recommend eating it sooner rather than later.
This Beer Bread Recipe is just easy, simple and tasty, one of those recipes that you will want to keep on hand. If you get turned off by the words of “beer” in “bread” don’t worry, most of the alcohol cooks off during the baking process but the flavor still remains.
If you don’t want that beer flavor, you can substitute any other carbonated beverage of your chose, but then again, it wouldn’t be beer bread, and the flavor would be different.
You can also substitute non alcoholic beer in beer bread as well, it still has the carbonation and the flavor, just not the alcohol content.
Some fun mix in’s that we have enjoyed with this beer bread include, diced jalapeรฑos, cheese, mixture of red and green peppers, etc. You can add a lot to this bread and still have it absolutely amazing.
TIPS AND TRICKS FOR MAKING BEER BREAD:
- Do not overtax the batter, it will be come tough and chewy, and that is not the texture that you want.
- The honey adds a little extra sweetness to this recipe and is highly encouraged to use, but recipe will work without it, we also like to drizzle our slices with a little extra honey for sweetness.
- Brushing on the butter is optional, but highly encouraged, it helps the butter soak into the top giving the crust a nice flavor and help it brown.
- Add in desired mix in’s as stated above, cheese, jalapeรฑos, peppers, herbs, etc.
- Check the center with a toothpick for doneness, sometimes quick breads don’t like to completely bake in the middle, so always check this before removing entirely.
If you want that perfect quick bread recipe, this Beer Bread is a great learning, tasting and experimenting bread. Once you’ve tried it, it will be your new favorite!

Is there a substitute for white flour?
Tornadough Alli
You can substitute gluten free flour 1:1 otherwise I’m not sure about whole wheat, I can test it out sometime though!

Delicious!! Best part of our meal! Would like to make beer batter hoagie rolls. Thinking added flour, maybe oil and more kneading, rising and dividing dough up may work??!!

I made beer bread for Saint Patrick’s Day. I used Guinness stout, which caused the bread to have a darker color than the pictures you posted. It was delicious! I will definitely be using this recipe again! Thank you for sharing!
