Love quick breads that are easy and use pantry ingredients? This Easy Cheddar bread is tasty, filling and super simple. The perfect bread recipe!
When it comes to baking bread, I’m more of a quick bread person. I do sometimes use yeast, but I really prefer to make breads that don’t take as long as time.
This Easy Cheddar Bread is one of our favorites and we have been making it for years. I’m finally updating this recipe as it was first posted in July of 2015!
Some of my other favorite quick breads that we make include Beer Bread, Lemon Poppy Seed Bread and this Chocolate Banana Bread.
WHY THIS RECIPE WORKS:
- With minimal pantry ready ingredients this bread is super easy and whips up quickly.
- You can use any type of cheddar you like depending on how potent you want the cheese flavor to come out.
- This recipe can be used in many ways, toasted, as grilled cheese, sandwich, etc.
This Easy Cheddar Bread is seriously delicious. We usually make it at least once a month. We are addicted.
The way that the cheddar really marbles the bread makes it not only tasty but pretty to look at to, you can definitely tell that there is cheese in here.
HOW TO MAKE EASY CHEDDAR BREAD, STEP BY STEP:
- In large bowl add your flour, baking powder, salt and pepper.
- Whisk together until everything is combined.
- Add your shredded cheese to your flour mixture.
- Toss your cheese in the flour mixture until everything is coated and spread out nicely.
- In another bowl add your milk, butter, egg and sour cream.
- Whisk together until everything is combined and smooth.
- Add your wet mixture to your dry mixture.
- Stir until everything is combined, but try not to over mix, just get all the flour wet.
- Spread into a sprayed 9″x5″ loaf pan and bake at 350 for 50-60 minutes.
This is such an easy recipe to whip up as you can see. You can use freshly shredded cheese if you like or bagged cheese works just as well.
We have used both and they both obtained similar results, so the choice is up to you and what you have on hand.
Flour is one ingredients that we always have on hand, we have it stocked because we bake so often, that we highly recommend that is one pantry staple you always have.
Some of my other favorite quick breads that we love are Cinnamon Swirl Quick Bread, Honey Oat Quick Bread and this Italian Herb Quick Bread.
WHAT CHEESE IS BEST FOR BREAD?
There are a lot of Cheeses that are prefect for making quick breads, we prefer Cheddar, but you could also switch it up and use Cheddar Montery Jack, Swiss, Mozzarella, etc.
We really like a cheese that has a great potent flavor in it that will permeate through so you can really taste in the recipe itself.
Some add-ins that we have used before are Jalapeรฑos, pimentos, green olives, etc. You can really adapt this recipe to add some of your favoriting things.
Pepperonis is also one thing that we love to add to this Easy Cheddar Bread Recipe and have so on multiple occasions, it’s really just different flavoring each time!
Trust me, once you make this basic Cheddar Bread you will find a ton of different ways to make it unique and your own.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- Do not over mix the batter, this will cause the bread to be tough.
- Use any type of cheddar you like, we usually use milk cheddar, but sharp or medium work well.
- As referenced above you can add some mix-ins if you like, it is a perfect basic recipe to doctor up to what you like.
- You can make this all in one bowl if you’d like, but we like to mix the wet ingredients separately just to ensure that they are properly divided.
