WHAT ARE OTHER FLAVORS I CAN MAKE?
If you love the idea of frozen drinks and want to try other variations, some other flavors that you might like include:
- Strawberry and Banana
- Pineapple and Blueberry
- Peach and Mango
CAN YOU MAKE THIS WITHOUT ALCOHOL OR ANOTHER ALCOHOL?
You can make these Strawberry Pina Coladas without alcohol if you like. Simply omit the rum and it’s basically a frozen fruit drink, kind of like a smoothie.
This would be a great idea for kids, you can add some flavored water to the mixture if you’d like as well or some lemon-lime soda as well.
If you want to switch up your alcohol flavors then I suggest that you use Malibu since the drink already has a coconut flavor this will punch up that coconut a little more!
WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO GET THE LAYERS?
I find it easier to achieve the layered look if you spoon the pineapple mixture on top of the strawberry. If you just pour it in they will mix more and you won’t see that pretty design on the outside of the glass.
You can also mix the drink together if you’d like so the flavors all mingle together, we do that from time to time but we much prefer the layered look of this drink.
HOW TO STORE:
This drink is best served freshly made and enjoyed right away. Due to its frozen nature, it will not keep long. Using a frozen glass helps keep your drink colder longer.
You can attempt to freeze these drinks for later by storing them in a freezer bag for a few weeks, but I really wouldn’t recommend any longer than that.
Trying to freeze these with alcohol in them may change the consistency of the drinks and that will change as well when you pull them out of the freezer and it starts to melt again.
Once it has just started to defrost, you will want to pour into a glass and consume. If you froze your portions separately you can layer and then consume.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- This recipe can easily be doubled or tripled.
- If you want to use Malibu in place of white rum that would give it an extra punch of coconut flavor.
- This Strawberry Pina Colada is not overly sweet. If you are looking for a sweeter drink, add 1 ounce of simple syrup to each mixture.
- Make sure to use a cream of coconut in the can and shake it well. Coconut milk and coconut cream are not the same things.
- These can be frozen, but may slightly change the consistency, see my tips above.
- Try making other flavors!
- This can be made virgin and kid-friendly, see above on how to do that.
- Do not try to use fresh fruit for this, you will need frozen.
