I don’t think there really has to be a reason not to enjoy this casserole anytime. It is easy, has minimal ingredients and the flavor is literally amazing.
Our secret is to cook some of the French’s fried onions in with the casserole, then add more to the top so you get that yummy flavor throughout the whole thing.
That is one of my favorite things about this is the fried onions! Now if you are not a fried onion fan, no worries you can absolutely leave them out. I on the other hand can eat them plain by the bag!

CAN I BAKE THIS INSTEAD?
Yes, if you want to go the traditional route you can bake instead of slow cooking it. What you will want to do is follow the steps and place everything in a large baking dish.
You will want to bake at 350 degrees F for about 30-45 minutes or until everything is warm and bubbly. Add your remaining onions and place back in oven for another 5-10 minutes until golden.
CAN I USE A DIFFERENT SOUP?
Yes if you are not a fan of cream of mushroom soup you can use others. Some others that we use are cream of celery, cream of chicken or even cheddar cheese soup.
There are a lot of options on what soup you can use so don’t feel like you are missing out because our preference for this Slow Cooker Green Bean Casserole is cream of mushroom.
WILL FROZEN GREEN BEANS WORK?
Yes, you can use frozen green beans for this recipe. You will want to defrost them as much as possible before adding them to the slow cooker.
HOW TO STORE:
This recipe can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator where it will keep for up to 2-3 days. Reheat in the microwave until warmed through.
I do not recommend freezing any leftovers.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- You can use frozen green beans for this recipe, just make sure you thaw them beforehand.
- We don’t usually use fresh green beans but if you do make sure you cook a little longer on high, around 3 hours.
