Soft, salty and addictive these Pretzel Bites are a delicious snacking recipe for any occasion. With minimal ingredients they are fun to make and easier to eat.
I love soft pretzels, I absolutely do. They are one of my absolute favorite things ever. Like if I see an Aunt Auntie Anne’s you better know that I am stopping there.
But I absolutely love making my own Pretzel Bites at home and dip them in some delicious cheese sauce! There really is no better comfort snack than these Pretzel Bites to me.
I love working with dough, I really do, but I don’t share a lot of those recipes often as I know a lot of people hate working with yeast, but I have to share this recipe with you guys.
They are too good not too share and you will fall in love quickly with these pretzels. They are perfectly soft and salty that you can’t stop eating them.
Some of my other favorite pretzel recipes I love include Pepperoni Pizza Pretzels, Hot Ham and Cheese Stuffed Pretzels and Easy Stuffed Pretzel Bites!
WHY THIS RECIPE WORKS:
- With pantry staple ingredients, you can whip these up anytime.
- Double your batch to make more to save for later.
- They go perfect with all of your favorite dipping sauces.
INGREDIENTS NEEDED TO MAKE (FULL RECIPE AT BOTTOM)
Water
Milk
Active Dry Yeast
Coconut Oil
Salt
Brown Sugar
All-Purpose Flour
Baking Soda
Butter
Coarse Sea Salt
HOW TO MAKE PRETZEL BITES, STEP BY STEP:
- In the bowl of a stand mixer combine water, milk, yeast, coconut oil, salt, brown sugar and about half of the flour.
- Mix well using a dough hook attachment. You could also use a large bowl and wooden spoon/ your hands.
- Gradually add remaining flour. Dough should be slightly sticky but not stick to your fingers.
- Knead dough for 3-4 minutes then place dough in a large lightly greased bowl and cover with saran wrap. Allow dough to rise for about 1 hour. It should double in size.
- Remove dough from bowl and knead a few more times.
- Form an evenly shaped ball and cut into 8 equally sized pieces. Roll each dough ball into a strip about 1 inch in diameter. Cut the strip into 6-8 equally sized pieces.
- Prepare a baking soda bath by boiling water in a large stock pot and then SLOWLY add ยฝ cup baking soda. Place each pretzel piece into the bath for about 30 seconds.
- Remove from the bath and place on parchment lined baking sheets. Use a basting brush, brush butter onto each pretzel piece and then sprinkle salt sea salt onto pieces.
- Bake at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 10-12 minutes. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce and enjoy!
See the best thing about this is that your stand mixer really does all the work! If you don’t own one, I would highly recommend getting one.
I didn’t own a stand mixer until almost 3 years ago, and I wrote a whole cookbook not being able to use one because I didn’t own one at the time, but it is absolutely worth the investment.
WHAT HAPPENS IF MY PRETZEL BITES GET HARD?
Luckily if this does happen, you can pop them in the microwave for about 20 seconds and it will soften them right back up to what they were when you first baked them.
I love that about this Pretzel Bite Recipe is that they are easy to soften if they do get hard, but if they are hard that is fine too, you can eat them just like you would the hard ones from the bag.
CAN I MAKE THESE IN THE AIR FRYER?
Yes you can! If you plan on making the in the air fryer you an skip the water bath for these. Spray your air fryer basket with cooking spray and place your bites inside (you will need to do this in batches).
Air fry at 390 degrees F for 6-7 minutes, remove and brush with butter and sprinkle with salt.
Look at that perfect golden brown on these and that salt! The salt is my favorite part, you cant have pretzel bites without salt IMO! That is what makes them.
HOW TO STORE:
If you don’t end up eating all these yummy bites there are a few options for storage, trust me they don’t get used often because you will not have any of these left.
These can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up too 3 days, after that they will start getting hard, but like said above you can soften them in the microwave.
These can also be frozen. Wrap the Pretzel Bites in plastic wrap and place in freezer bag and in freezer, they should be good for up to 1 month, defrost at room temperature.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- When placing the baking soda in water bath do it slowly as it really starts to bubble.
- You can easily double this batch to have and serve more.
- These can be frozen, see my tips above on how to do that.
- You can make these in the air fryer, I have included instructions above on how to do that.
- You can make regular pretzels out of this dough as well, just don’t cut your ropes into little bites.
- Coarse sea salt is the best for topping these, do not use table salt.
- You can use instant yeast for this, just watch your rise as it will rise faster.
These Pretzel Bites need to go on your snack menu soon! You will fall in love, if you are a pretzel person at all, you will really enjoy these.
They have the perfect texture and flavor and you really just cant go wrong with a delicious soft pretzel recipe in the first place!
