HOW TO MAKE A MEZCAL MARGARITA, STEP BY STEP:
- Salt your glass by wetting the rim with a lime wedge, and then place it upside down in a shallow plate that has been sprinkled with salt.
- Fill a shaker cup with some ice and add in an ounce of lime juice, Mezcal (or tequila), Cointreau and granulated sugar.
- Shake well for about a minute and then pour into glass and garnish with lime if desired.
WHAT IS MEZCAL?
Mezcal is a distilled alcohol that is made from any type of agave plant. It has it’s own distinct flavor that is a little smokey.
Some ask if it is a tequila, this is a loaded question. All tequila is Mezcal but not all Mezcal is tequila.
CAN I JUST USE TEQUILA FOR THIS RECIPE?
If you are having a hard time finding Mezcal or simply do not like the flavor, then you can use silver tequila for this margarita instead.
HOW CAN I MAKE THIS SWEETER?
While we do add sugar to this recipe, we can sometimes appreciate that that may not be enough for some.
If you want a sweeter version of this recipe then I suggest adding in some agave or simple syrup a teaspoon or two at a time until you reach your desired sweetness.
CAN I RIM THE GLASS WITH ANYTHING ELSE?
While coarse salt or margarita salt is what we usually use you can switch it up as well.
Use coarse sugar, a mixture of chile powder and salt, or just leave it plain.
This is really up to you and how you want your Mezcal Margarita to taste, just have some fun.
HOW TO STORE:
I do not recommend keeping this cocktail stored, it is best when it is first made.

- If you don’t want to use Mezcal you can use silver tequila for this recipe.
- Make sure that you are using fresh lime juice.
- Easily double or triple this recipe to serve more people.
