Easy, tender and delicious these Instant Pot Street Tacos are simple recipe quickly made in the instant pot and filled with amazing Mexican flavor.
You have asked and I have answered. We have finally got an Instant Pot version of my Slow Cooker Street Tacos! They are just as moist and flavorful and utterly addicting.
Street Tacos are one of my favorite dishes on the planet. The flavors of citrus and Mexican spices are what draw me in each and every time. If I had to choose one of my favorite Mexican dishes it would hands down be street tacos.
I’ve had many readers ask if my slow cooker version could be made in the instant pot so I set out to answer them and the answer was a clear yes! They were just as tender as the regular version but in a sliver of the time.
WHAT ARE STREET TACOS?
When it comes to describing what street tacos are, they vary from place to place. Usually smaller in size and served in sets of 3 or more they are usually are beef, pork or chicken on smaller tortillas with various toppings.
Sometimes they are wrapped in two tortillas to hold the juices in. Our street tacos are just that. Smaller portions served on smaller tortillas. They do this because it entices you to usually buy more. I mean how can you not!
Now I may not be entirely correct on those facts, but like I said it really varies from place to place and the only thing you really need to know about street tacos is that they are seriously addicting and you cant stop at just one, so I can see why they are always served in multiples.
These Instant Pot Street Tacos are pretty much an identical version of my other recipe, but adapted to fit in your Instant Pot. If you don’t have an Instant Pot, I highly recommend checking them out. They are a Godsend and we have loved ours ever since getting it.
HOW TO MAKE STREET TACOS:
- Cut your steak into smaller portions, we did 4 pieces.
- In bowl mix together your olive oil, orange juice, worcestershire sauce, cilantro, garlic, honey, chili powder and cumin and stir until blended.
- Pour over your meat and using a thongs coat all sides of your meat.
- Cover and seal lid and cook on high pressure for 45 minutes then let it do a natural release which takes usually about 15-20 minutes.
- You can remove your meat from the pot and shred, or shred right in the pot which we do.
- Serve over tortillas topped with pico, garlic lime sauce (recipe below) and cojita cheese.
We like to keep our street tacos as simple as possible, they really don’t need much topping as the flavor of the meat should really be the star in this recipe. So we top with garlic lime sauce, fresh pico de gallo and some cojita cheese and that is it!
Another question that people as a lot is “what meat is good for making street tacos”? Like previously stated you can use pork, chicken or beef. We usually go with beef and we use flank steak for ours. If you don’t have flank steak you can also use skirt steak if you would like. Some stores also sell meat labeled as “carne asada” meat, and that works well also.
This Instant Pot Street Taco Recipe is perfect for your taco Tuesdays! You can just stick it in the instant pot with minimal dishes and it will be ready in about an hour, no marinating or nothing!
Just a simple classic and easy recipe that the whole family can enjoy. It’s not too spicy, has a touch of citrus flavor and some Mexican spices. If you are a lover of cilantro than this recipe is for you.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- You can sear your flank steak in the instant pot before cooking if you like just to give it a little browning, add some oil to pot and set on sautรฉ and just slightly brown each side.
- You can substitute skirt steak for flank steak if you can’t find flank steak in your area. We have had troubles in the past finding flank steak so this is a good option.
- These are juicy tacos, which I’ve always known street tacos to be whenever we have gotten them, if you would like them less juicy, remove your meat before shredding and discard some of the liquid before adding meat back to the pot to soak up the liquid.
- You can find street taco tortillas at Walmart, they are cute tiny little things and those are what we use for this recipe.
If you want a quick and easy weeknight meal that feeds the family than these Instant Pot Street Tacos are calling your name!

Excellent recipe. I followed it exactly except I cooked mine for 43 minutes and released pressure after 15 min of natural release, because I felt like it was a tad too long, which it was personally for my instant pot.
The meat was flavorful and shredded super easily but it was a little tough.
I did sear the meat for about 1 minute on each side and then cut each piece in half to put in the instant pot.
Next time I would try maybe 38 minutes with 8-10 minutes natural release, and would not cut the pieces in half.
(From my understanding the meat continues to cook during natural release)
Other than that, super easy, delicious, and I even loved the garlic lime sauce!!

Awesome

So tasty! Meat is very flavorful which makes this dish so good. I like to top it with extra cilantro and diced white onion.

Made this recipe with 0.3 kg of eye of the round steaks since that’s all we had on hand. They were frozen and cubed. Pressure cooked for 25min and quick released. The meat shredded beautifully! I had adjusted the recipe to serve 8 people so that there was 250 mL of liquid (1/3 c. each OJ/oil/worchestshire). SO GOOD!

If I double the meat in this recipe should I double liquid also?
Tornadough Alli
I would just so the meat won’t dry out.
Ashley
New to insta pot!!! Do you really cook in high pressure for 45(?) minutes?!
Just double checking!
Tornadough Alli

Can u put onions and peppers in with the steak when cooking?
Tornadough Alli
That shouldn’t be an issue at all.

I tried sending a comment and it didnโt appear to go through. Sorry if this is a repeat. I am trying to determine how much cilantro to mix in with the ingredients that go in with the meat to cook. No amount is given in recipe. I am making tonight. Sounds so good

Hmmm I just looked at the recipe and it shows 1/4 cup, sorry this is late just seeing this.
