Usually I’m an iced coffee drinker, but I am obsessed with a Chai Latte during the cooler months. Chai is one of my favorite flavors and I can’t get enough.
This is one recipe that I would usually order at the coffee shop, but we’ve been making it at home for some time now and we can’t get over how easy it is.

- Instead of chai tea you can also use black tea.

HOW TO MAKE A CHAI LATTE RECIPE, STEP BY STEP:
- Place all spices in a coffee filter, and tie the top closed with string, this helps prevent any leaking.
- Add the tied filer into a medium saucepan with tea bags, brown sugar, and water.
- Bring to a boil and then remove from heat and let steep for roughly 8 minutes.
- Remove the tea bags and the spice bag, making sure that you squeeze out any excess liquid.
- Pour 6 ounces (each) of tea into two large mugs.
- Using a steamer, steam the milk until it reaches 160 degrees F. (see notes if you do not have a steamer)
- Pour the milk over the tea, using a spoon to slow the froth from coming out until last.
- Sprinkle with cinnamon if desired and serve.
WHAT IS A CHAI LATTE?
A Chai Latte is pretty much a black tea that is infused with cinnamon, ginger, cloves and other spices. It is then steeped and combined with dsteamed milk and topped with milk foam to give it that nice fluffy topping it always has.
This is one of a popular menu item at pretty much any coffee shops and available all year round. While it is mainly popular in the cooler months, it can also be iced.
DOES THIS CONTAIN CAFFEINE?
Black and chai tea bags both contain caffeine in them. If you want a decaffeinated version you can find some chai tea bags that do not contain caffeine.
DO I NEED A MILK STEAMER?
No you do not need a steamer. You can heat your milk in a pan on the stove and then you can add it to a large cup and you can make froth by using a handheld frother or an immersion blender.
HOW TO STORE:
I do not recommend storing the constructed drink itself. You can brew the tea and store that in the refrigerator covered and it will keep up to 3-4 days.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- You can easily double or halve this recipe depending on how many people you are serving.
- You can use black tea bags in place of chai tea bags.
- Even though you start with 2 cups of water, some will be absorbed by the tea and spice bag and youโll be left with about 1ยฝ cups.
- If you don’t have a milk steamer, you can pour the milk directly into the pan after removing the tea bags and spice bag. This can be reheated. If you want froth, you can use a hand frother or an immersion blender.
- The brewed tea itself will keep refrigerated for up to 3-4 days.
