INGREDIENTS NEEDED:
- Spiral cut ham
- Crushed pineapple
- Brown sugar
- Mustard
- Ground cloves
You really cannot go wrong with a short ingredient list like that! I know that it’s one of our favorites because of that and usually we have the things on hand.
HOW TO MAKE BAKED HAM:
- Remove your ham from refrigerator and let sit at room temperature for about 2 hours.
- Meanwhile preheat your oven to 325.
- Unpackage your ham and place in large roasting dish.
- In bowl whisk together pineapple, sugar, mustard and cloves.
- Pour the mixture over the top of your ham and rub insides the slices of the ham to make sure to get it inside, then rub all around the ham.
- Bake in oven for 1 1/2 – 2 hours until internal temp reads at least 140.
- Remove from oven and baste with juices.
While this is our preferred method of making ham you can also cook this Baked Ham in the crockpot!
HOW TO COOK HAM IN CROCKPOT:
You will need a crockpot at least 8qt, place your unpackaged ham in bottom and repeat the steps above (combining the brown sugar, pineapple, mustard and cloves) and pour and rub into the slices and over ham. Add your lid and place crockpot on low for 4-5 hour until the internal temp reads 140. Baste ham with juices before serving.
This baked ham recipe is super versatile being able to bake it or cook it in the crockpot, depends on how quickly you want your ham pretty much. But the end results will essentially be the same.
TIPS AND TRICKS FOR MAKING BAKED HAM:
- Cover your ham when baking. This ensures that the moisture stays in and doesn’t dry out the ham.
- You can use pineapple tidbits for this recipe as well (using the juices) instead of the crushed pineapple, we like using crushed because it is easy to slather in the slices.
- Although ham is usually precooked you still want to get it warm enough inside, having a meat thermometer is a great thing to have and make sure that this recipe is at least 140 degrees at it’s fattiest part, it will be warmer in the slices because they are thinner.
- Baste your ham throughout cooking, this will ensure that it keeps getting extra moisture and flavor added throughout the cooking process.
