Looking for that perfect classic party appetizer? You need to make these Brown Sugar Bacon Little Smokies! Super easy, flavorful and great for any party or gathering.
Little Smokies are one of my favorite appetizers! There is so many different things and flavor combinations that you can do with them but these Brown Sugar Bacon Little Smokies are my go-to.
We have been making these for years and years. My mom would make them as appetizers for all the holidays and when football would be on and now that’s exactly what we do with our family.
You really can’t go wrong with bacon, then you add brown sugar and other spices to the mix and you have yourself on a whole new level of appetizer flavortown!
The major selling point about this recipe is the minimal ingredients and time it takes to put them together. You all know that I love quick and easy and that is exactly what these are.
You honestly cannot go wrong when making these Little Smokies, trust me they will be gone in no time. At least that is what happens when we make them.
They are great for kids and adults. There is a little spice in them from cayenne but they are not spicy in the slightest. All the flavors together work absolutely perfectly.
Some of my other favorite appetizer recipes that we have on our site include: Slow Cooker Grape Jelly Meatballs, Baked Queso Dip and Fried Pickles.
WHY THIS RECIPE WORKS:
- Minimal and easy to find ingredients help this recipe come together fast.
- You can double this recipe to make more for larger crowds.
- Keep these in a slow cooker to stay warm while munching out.
INGREDIENTS NEEDED (FULL RECIPE AT BOTTOM):
Bacon
Little smokies
Light brown sugar
Garlic powder
Onion powder
Cayenne pepper
Parsley, optional
HOW TO MAKE BROWN SUGAR BACON LITTLE SMOKIES, STEP BY STEP:
- Cut the bacon into thirds. Pat the little smokies dry with a paper towel. Wrap a little smokie with a piece of bacon and place it into a 9×13 baking dish seam side down. Repeat with all the smokies, you may have a few slices of bacon left.
- In a small bowl add the brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne.
- Stir together until combined.
- Sprinkle this mixture over the wrapped smokies. Cover with plastic wrap and place it in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 350ยฐF. Uncover the baking dish and bake for 45 minutes. If the brown sugar is not mostly dissolved, cover with foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes. Turn the broiler and high, uncover, and broiler until lightly golden brown.
- Serve immediately with an optional parsley garnish.
WHY DO I NEED TO REFRIGERATE THESE?
Believe it or not but refrigerating the Little Smokies helps the brown sugar melt down before baking. This will help it fully melt in the oven when baked.
It helps adding to the process so you don’t have burnt brown sugar or sugar on your Little Smokies that hasn’t melted all the way or crips up with the bacon.
CAN I USE THICK CUT BACON?
We use regular bacon for this recipe. It crisps up easier in the amount of time that we are baking it for. We have not used thick cut for this recipe.
If you want to try thick cut bacon you can, but you will need to bake it longer for the bacon to crisp up in the oven like the regular bacon would.
WHAT KIND OF LITTLE SMOKIES SHOULD I USE?
This is completely up to you. There are a few different kinds, the regular ones are made up of a mix of beef and pork. Then you also have all beef and all turkey.
We have made these will all of them and they all taste great so what you want to use is completely up to you!
HOW TO STORE:
These can be stored in an airtight container with the liquid in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. To reheat place the Little Smokies with the sauce in pan, pot or bowl with the liquid and heated in the oven, stovetop or microwave until heated through.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- You can use any variety of little smokies that you like.
- Make sure you use regular cut bacon so they will crisp up.
- These should be refrigerated to help break down the brown sugar for melting purposes.
- These can be kept warm in a slow cooker with liquid poured over the top on warm while sitting out at a party.
