This old-fashioned Better Than Sex Cake is doctored up and drenched in caramel, sweetened condensed milk and chocolate. Topped with a vanilla frosting, nuts and a caramel drizzle.
If you know me then you know that I love my cakes! I have an addiction to all things cake. I don’t care what flavor it is or what type it is, but I’m 100% in love.
This Better Than Sex Cake recipe has been around for so many years and we have been making it for as long as I can remember. It is one of those cakes that you just don’t forget.
The mixture of chocolate, caramel, sweetened condensed milk and frosting really gives it a nice moist and texture and makes it super flavorful.
Some of our other favorite chocolate cakes we have on the site include Chocolate Lava Cake, Texas Sheet Cake and Chocolate Ricotta Cake.
WHY THIS RECIPE WORKS:
- It uses minimal easy to find ingredients.
- We doctor up a cake mix to make it a little richer and bakery like.
- The frosting is super simple to whip up and really adds the finishing touches on this cake.
This is really a rich and delicious cake, it’s one that you know you should really stop at one pice but it is just super hard to do it, I know that I have to hold resistance on that.
I mean it’s not called Better Than Sex Cake for nothing, amiright? I mean seriously this cake is literally the bomb! That that has to be emphasized.
This Better Than Sex Cake Recipe has been a long standing favorite of mine for a long time and I’m finally happy to be able to share it with you, I don’t know why I didn’t do it sooner.
HOW TO MAKE BETTER THAN SEX CAKE, STEP BY STEP:
- In a large bowl or stand mixer fitted with a whisk attachment, mix together all of the cake ingredients on medium speed until fully combined.
- Bake cake according to package directions and remove from oven and immediately poke holes in the cake with a wooden dowel or the handle of a mixing spoon.
- Pour the caramel sauce over the top of the cake and spread into the holes.
- Next pour the sweetened condensed milk spreading over top of cake and into the holes.
- Finally the warm hot fudge. Let the cake soak and cool for 30 to 60 minutes before frosting.
- To make the frosting, add the ingredients to a large bowl or stand mixer fitted with a whisk attachment and beat on medium-high speed until light and fluffy. Spread the frosting evenly over the top of the cake and top with toffee bits and caramel drizzle if desired (but highly recommend).
How easy does this Better Than Sex Cake look? Seriously minimal steps! The longest time is the cooling time so you can get all the flavors soaking together.
CAN I MAKE THIS THE NIGHT BEFORE:
Absolutely, it give the ingredients longer to soak in to the cake itself and marry together and it will be chilled and easy to cut when you are ready to serve the cake itself.
We regularly do this when we bring it to potlucks, I’m one of those people who love recipes that are able to be made the night before and just taken and this cake is one of those ones.
HOW TO STORE AND HOW LONG WILL IT KEEP?
Since this recipe has whipped cream in the frosting we recommend covering and keeping in the refrigerator so the toppings itself doesn’t spoil or melt at room temperature.
This cake should last about 4-5 days (if you don’t eat it all before then) stored this way as well.
Now a traditional Better Than Sex Cake doesn’t have thehot fudge layer, but we wanted to be a little extra with this so it really lives up to it’s name.
You can absolutely leave those out, but we HIGHLY encourage you to add them because it really really lives up to it’s name when those ingredients are incorporated.
I fell like you can never have enough chocolate, I’m a chocolate kinda gal. We also stray away from the traditional whipped topping layer and add a little pudding to it so it’s a little thicker and tastier.
I’m one of those people who love to doctor up old rational recipes to see if I can make them better and I really think that I hit the nail on the head with this Better Than Sex Cake version.
It is highly decadent, pretty and just all around tasty, whenever we make it this way everyone gobbles it up and there are never any leftovers for anyone to take home…boo, but good.
CAN I USE OTHER FROSTINGS?
You can use any frosting that you like, I have seen it with cream cheese, traditional whipped cream and some buttercream. We like the frosting we use because it’s light but easily spreadable.
If you are not fans of heath bits you can sprinkle this topping with mini chocolate chips as well, we do that sometimes to switch it up and everyone still loves it the same.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- We doctor up this cake mix to make it a littler richer and bakery like, but you can use just any old regular cake mix and back according to package directions.
- If the cake seems to rich for you you can leave out one of the layers to tame the sweetness down.
- If you are not a fan of heath bits you can use mini chocolate chips as a topping.
- We like to drizzle this with extra caramel, but we have also been known to drizzle with chocolate syrup as well.
- This recipe needs to be refrigerated because of the whipped topping in the frosting.
- We use whole milk to doctor up this cake mix but you can use any milk you have on hand.
This Better Than Sex Cake is literally calling your name, it is mine, if I could eat it every single day of my life I would. But I don’t think my thighs would like that.
If you want a rich, easy and decadent cake that adds a little twist of a classic then you need to whip up this Better Than Sex Cake immediately!
