- Using canned biscuits helps this recipe come together fast.
- The caramel sauce works it’s way all throughout the monkey bread while cooking.
- The pecans add a nice crunchy texture to each and every bite.
INGREDIENTS NEEDED (FULL RECIPE AT BOTTOM):
Refrigerated buttermilk biscuits
Pecans
Apples
Cinnamon
Ground cloves
Brown sugar
Granulated sugar
Butter
HOW TO MAKE APPLE MONKEY BREAD, STEP BY STEP:
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease the bundt pan then pour the pecans around the base.
- Whisk together the fruit coating of cinnamon, ground cloves and brown sugar.
- Peel and chop the apples into small tidbit pieces. Mix in the fruit with the coating ingredients until coated. Set aside.
- Whisk together the granulated sugar and cinnamon in a separate bowl, set aside.
- Cut each biscuit into quarters, then toss each piece into the cinnamon sugar mixture to coat. Layer coated biscuit pieces on top of the pecans in the bundt pan.
- Once there is a base layer of biscuits, start adding layers of chopped fruit bits, rotating within the pieces of biscuit until they are all in the bundt pan.
- In a small saucepan, combine 1/2 cup of the remaining cinnamon and sugar mixture from coating the biscuits, the butter and the brown sugar. Melt on medium-high heat. Whisk continuously until the butter sauce bubbles constantly while being stirred.
- Pour the butter sauce all over the layers of biscuits and fruit.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes. The top will be crisped and slightly browned. Rest for only 5 minutes before flipping the bundt pan onto a large serving dish or cake plate to serve.
CAN I ADD OTHER FRUIT TO THIS?
Absolutely, a lot of the times we add pears with the apples, so omit one apple and add one pear. You can add cranberries, fresh or dried. Or any other fruit you think would be good.
WHAT SIZE BUNDT PAN I DO USE?
This uses a standard sized bundt pan, that would mean that it will hold up to 12 cups. So if you don’t own one, then if you purchase one make sure it either says standard or holds up to 12 cups.
DO I HAVE TO USE A BUNDT PAN?
While this is usually the traditional way to make monkey bread you can make the in bread loaf pans or even in a cake pan an well, you will just turn them out the same method.
The only thing that might change is the cooking time, so if you do use another pan then you will want to check for doneness.
HOW TO STORE APPLE MONKEY BREAD:
This can be stored covered in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. You can reheat in the oven on the lowest setting or in the microwave until heated.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- Make sure when you are buying your biscuits you are getting the smaller 7.5 oz cans (usually we find the great value off brand at Walmart).
- Dice the apples as small or as large as you like.
- This is great as a breakfast, brunch or dessert so serve it any time of day!
- Make sure you grease your bundt pan well.
- This needs to sit for 5 minutes for the sauce to thicken slightly before turning out onto plate, do not wait too long otherwise you run the risk of the bread getting stuck.
