Enjoy a slice of Apple Cinnamon Cake with a homemade powder sugar glaze and a sweet cinnamon swirl that runs through it. Every slice is loaded with flavor!
We love everything cinnamon and apple. Cinnamon and apple go together like peanut butter and jelly they just belong together.
Baking apple and cinnamon desserts is definitely one of my favorite things to do in the fall. This Apple Cinnamon Cake is like enjoying a sweet piece of Apple Pie but in cake form and somehow, even better!
Plus it is easier to make than a homemade pie and ready in a no time! When I started making this cake while baking in the fall, it quickly became a family favorite, so much that they requested I make a few extra to freeze when apples are no longer in season.
It takes a little extra work now, but being able to just pull out that cake and have it ready to go when apples are no longer plentiful, is super convenient and it’s so delicious!
My favorite part of this Apple Cinnamon Cake is the swirl, that really makes this cake what it is and makes it stand out from any other apple cake that you’ve tried.
If you are an apple lover and want something, easy, fast and super tasty – then you have to whip up this Apple Cinnamon Cake ASAP!

CAN I MAKE THIS AHEAD?
If you want to work on this Apple Cinnamon Cake ahead of time and get some of the work done early, you can. This is nice if you’re making it for a holiday, get together or party when you have other things that need to get done closer to the party too.
I suggest you start working on the recipe up to just before folding in the cinnamon apples. Then, cover it with plastic wrap and refrigerate it, then add the apples just before baking it later.
WHAT ARE THE BEST APPLES TO USE FOR THIS APPLE CAKE?
You can use any apple you want in this cinnamon apple cake. You can even use a mixture of a few different types of apples. Some of the best apples to choose are:
- Granny Smith
- Golden Delicious
- Pink Lady
- Honeycrisp
- Jonagold
CAN I USE A DIFFERENT GLAZE?
Absolutely, if you’re not feeling the powdered sugar glaze, you can try a lemon glaze or an apple cider glaze. They would both pair nicely with this cake recipe.
To make a Lemon Glaze: Combine ยพ cup powdered sugar, 2-3 tablespoons lemon juice, and 1 teaspoon lemon zest.
To make an Apple Cider Glaze: Combine ยพ cup powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons apple cider, and ยฝ teaspoon cinnamon.
HOW TO STORE:
Any leftovers should be transferred to an airtight container and kept at room temperature where it will keep for up to 3-4 days.
I don’t recommend storing it in the refrigerator as that tends to dry out your cake faster.
You can also freeze this cake, place cake wrapped in plastic wrap and then foil in a freezer bag or container where it will keep for up to 2 months.
To defrost, remove from the freezer to the countertop overnight until thawed.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- Baking time may vary depending on your oven, so keep a close eye on your cake.
- If you find that your cake is burning so quickly, I suggest using a sheet of aluminum foil and placing it over top of the cake as it finishes baking.
- As with most cake recipes, I suggest using the toothpick test to determine when the cake is finished baking. It’s done when a toothpick can be inserted into the cake and it comes out clean or with just a few crumbs
- You can try a combination of apples in this cake recipe if desired.
- I like to make this ahead of time so all I have to do is bake it later to save time.
- Serve this with some vanilla ice cream for a real treat.
- Feel free to use a different glaze, I’ve shared some options above.
- You can freeze this cake if desired, see my suggestions above on how to do that properly.
