This Wendy’s Frosty copycat recipe makes a refreshing, creamy and chocolatey drink or dessert with easy ingredients that saves you money and can enjoy at home!
If you are a Wendy’s fan then you have to have tried their Frosty. It is like the best thing on their menu in my opinion. I would get one every time I went there but the closed down a long time ago so I had to improvise.
We’ve been making these homemade Wendy’s Frosty’s since, and let me tell you, they are spot on if not better than what you would get at the restaurant. We just cannot get enough.
I got tired of the kids asking to go get one, so we did our best to make a copycat. Obviously it took me a few tries to figure out what I liked best and we ended up with this recipe and have never turned back.
This is DELICIOUS! Most recipes for a copycat Wendyโs Frosty call for fewer ingredients, but I found this combination of ingredients is dead on to Wendyโs. I even brought one home from the restaurant to compare and everyone was blown away at how close they were.
This recipe is one of those drinks/desserts that you can enjoy pretty much all year long. I know they say ice cream is for the summertime but, seriously the Wendy’s Frosty is iconic and should be enjoyed all the time!
Some of our other favorite ice cream type recipes we have on our site include: Frozen Mudslide, Raspberry Sherbet Punch, and Shamrock Shake.
WHY THIS RECIPE WORKS:
- Easily half, double, or triple this recipe, it will always come out the same.
- Really is the perfect copycat recipe- no need to leave the house for such a tasty treat!
- This takes only 5 ingredients.
INGREDIENTS NEEDED (FULL RECIPE AT BOTTOM)
Chocolate milk
Nesquik powder
Sweetened condensed milk
Whipped topping
Vanilla extract
HOW TO MAKE A WENDY’S FROSTY, STEP BY STEP:
- Add half of your chocolate milk and half of the Nesquik powder, half of the sweetened condensed milk, half of the whipped topping, and half of the vanilla to a blender.
- Blend everything until well mixed and combined.
- Pour into a 9×13-inch baking dish and place into the freezer.
- Repeat with the rest of the ingredients so you have 2 baking dishes full.
- Every 30 minutes, scrape and mix the homemade frosty, breaking up the ice crystals. Focus mainly on the outer edges as they freeze first. Repeat this until it is frozen to your liking. I like my Frosty more solid so it takes about 6 hours. If you like it more slushy like in consistency, it should be ready in around 4 hours.
WHAT ARE THE INGREDIENTS OF A WENDY’S FROSTY?
Our Wendy’s Frosty is made with chocolate milk, Nesquik powder, sweetened condensed milk, whipped topping, and vanilla extract.
But have you actually looked at all the ingredients they use in the actual Wendy’s Frosty? I’ll just say I’m happier with our ingredient list. Wouldn’t you agree?
IS WENDY’S FROSTY ICE CREAM OR A MILKSHAKE?
A Frosty is actually the perfect combo of the two. As Dave, the founder of Wendy’s wanted it thick enough that you can use a spoon but it’s smooth and creamy enough that you could suck it up through a straw.
So, it’s essentially a combination of a milkshake and soft serve ice cream. I say that it is the best of both worlds and that is why it is so beloved by many!
CAN I MAKE MY OWN WHIPPED CREAM?
Absolutely, I know that some people don’t like cool whip so you can make your own homemade if you’d like! It will not change the recipe at all.
To do this, add ยฝ cup heavy whipping cream plus 2 tablespoons of powdered sugar, whip to stiff peaks. Instead of adding the whipped cream to the blender, blend the chocolate milk, nesquik, sweetened condensed milk, and vanilla together. Then, in a large bowl, fold in the fresh whipped cream.
HOW LONG DOES THIS TAKE TO SET UP?
This takes about 4-6 hours to get the texture that you want it to be. If you want it more slushy then it will be ready around the 4 hour mark, if you want it more solid it will be ready at the 6 hour mark.
HOW TO STORE:
This Wendy’s Frosty is best when you first make it. You do not want to store this in the refrigerator as it will melt. It does freeze nice but since it is more of an icy consistency it will melt faster than your regular ice cream.
This can be stored in a freezer container where it will keep frozen for up to 3 months. It will get solid once it freezes, but it is still relatively easy to scoop. You can remove it to thaw slightly to your consistency.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- You have to blend this in two batches because the amount of ingredients will not fit in a standard blender. If you donโt have a blender, you can use a food processor or an immersion blender.
- You can put the whole mix into a large bowl if you donโt want to add it to two different containers. It does make a lot so it takes a while to freeze, this is why I suggest two containers to make the process as fast as possible.
- This can be frozen for a longer period of time, see above on how to do that.
- You can make your own homemade whipped cream, see above on how we do that for this recipe.
- If you’re a super chocolate lover, add a tablespoon of cocoa powder.
- Love the salty and sweet, serve this up with some French fries for dipping!
- Easily double or triple this recipe to serve more people or keep on hand for later!
Save the gas and the money and learn to make your own Wendy’s Frosty at home with this super easy recipe! Trust me this one will not disappoint and you will make it over and over again.
