If you didn’t grow up living off of Grilled Cheese Sandwiches then your childhood was way different than mine. Grilled Cheese is the epitome of delicious comfort food.
Now with this Grilled Cheese Sandwich recipe I kind of made it more adult in appearance and flavor. I have nothing against slathering some bread and topping it with slices of cheese, but when you want something a little better, heres where you turn.

- The triple cheeses in this recipe meld so well together and create a fantastic melting and creamy center.
- The herb butter on the outside gives it a little bit more flavor with each and every bite.
Now my favorite part about making sandwiches is that there really is no limit to creativity. I’m a person who goes a little above and beyond when it comes to creating the perfect sandwich.
Now I’m not saying this is the most perfect sandwich you will ever eat, it’s grilled cheese, but it is the most perfect Grilled Cheese Sandwich in my book.
HOW TO MAKE A GRILLED CHEESE SANDWICH, STEP BY STEP:
- In a small bowl, mix butter, garlic powder, parsley and salt. Set aside
- Slice bread into ยฝ inch thick slices
- Spread butter on one side of each piece of bread.
- Flip the bread over and layer a handful of the Gouda, Monterey jack, and Cheddar on two slices of bread.
- Top each sandwich with the remaining 2 pieces of bread.
- Heat a skillet on medium heat. Place sandwiches in skillet and cover with a lid. Cook for about 5 minutes until bottoms are golden. Flip sandwiches over, cover and cook another 3-4 minutes until golden on both sides and sandwiches are heated through and cheese is melted.
The best thing about this recipe is it can be made for 1, 2, 3 or multiple people. It is such an easy recipe that it can be double or tripled with out any real extra effort.
WHAT IS THE BEST CHEESE FOR GRILLED CHEESE SANDWICHES?
Now this question is debatable. You really have to go by your favorite flavor and the melting factor of the cheese. We diligently use freshly shredded cheese in our Grilled Cheese Sandwich recipes.
Using freshly shredded cuts out the preservatives and helps it melt really well and quicker than if you were to use pre-shredded bag cheese.
Some of our favorite cheese to use in grilled cheese recipes include: Gouda, Cheddar, Monterey Jack, Colby and Muenster. But Like I said, its personal preference.
WHAT GOES WITH A GRILLED CHEESE SANDWICH?
This is such a loaded question! While grilled cheese sandwiches can be served alone, I really do like to eat it with some sort of side dish for sure.
Some of our favorite things to serve alongside Grilled Cheese is Italian Chopped Salad, Roasted Tomato Soup and Homemade French Fries!

- Use a sturdy bread such as sourdough, ciabatta, etc. Something that won’t get soggy easily and will hold its shape.
- Use freshly shredded cheese, not only does this help melt better, it melts quicker and blends with other cheeses better.
- Switch up your cheeses to your preference, the three we have in this recipe is just our favorite combination that we have been loving over the years.
- I highly encourage using the herb butter on the outside, it really gives it the added flavor.
- This recipe can easily be doubled or tripled depending on how many people you are feeding.
