So this Seven Layer Salad recipe might be different from the one your mom used to make. Well this is how we’ve always made it, like I said you can absolutely add and subtract ingredients as well.
WHY THIS RECIPE WORKS:
- This recipe uses only 7 ingredients, adding or omitting what you like.
- You can serve this right away or chilled.
- It is a breeze to whip up and can be made in may different dishes.
This salad is pretty much a breeze when it comes to putting it all together, it just takes a little time chopping and what not but the end results are always worth it.

- In large bowl add your chopped or shredded lettuce.
- Top with diced red onions (you can use white or yellow if you like)

I mean there really doesn’t even need to be step by s step directions, but have you ever watched the Episode of Friends where Rachel makes a trifle? Yeah this would of probably helped her.
I’m a big “Friends” nerd, and this salad always reminds me of it, obviously it’s not a trifle, but it is stacking different ingredients on top of one another that does create a trifle like recipe.
But serious though, isn’t this Seven Layer Salad Recipe super simple to whip up? I mean come on!
Just look at that crispy bacon layer, I think that is my favorite thing about the salad itself, I love anything with bacon and cheese. If you are not a lover of bacon and cheese, I don’t think we can be friends, jk.
CAN YOU MAKE THIS SALAD AHEAD OF TIME:
Yes, absolutely! This is actually commended to be chilled for at least 2 hours if not overnight. Even know you can eat right away, we like the flavors to meld and everything be cold.
So if you want to make your salad the night before then that is absolutely perfect.
HOW TO STORE:
Since this has mayo in it it is best to be kept refrigerated. This Seven Layer Salad should remain good for about 24-48 hours after it has been served.
I would not go too much longer than that because then your lettuce will start to wilt and that is not something you will want to experience.
So like I mentioned before, there are so many different variations of wha a “Seven Layer Salad” should be, this is just my version and I’ll give you some helpful tips and tricks below for more info.
TIPS AND TICKS:
- There are so many different options you can add to this salad such as hard boiled eggs, tomatoes, cucumbers, etc.
- We usually make this recipe in a trifle bowl, but if you have a large 3-4 square baking pan, you can layer it in there as well.
- It is totally optional to add sugar to your mayo mixture, if you like the added sweetness, go for it! We go off and on using and not using it depending on how we are feeling.
- You can substitute Miracle Whip for the may if you would like and prefer that flavor, I know there are people who are die bard mayo lovers and vice versa.
- This is best served chilled, although it CAN be eaten right away, you want the flavors to mingle a little bit.
