A classic recipe, this Roy Rogers Drink has cola, grenadine and cherries. A throwback mocktail that is super easy, flavorful and a hit for the whole family.
I love a good drink recipe, this Roy Rogers one is one of the classics. I always remember going to the restaurants when I was a kid and ordering one of these or a Shirley Temple.
They were the epitome of my childhood, but I still love them to this day. And we all need a fun, simple and tasty drink that you can mix together and not just have in a can.
With the grenadine added to the cola, the flavors together really are perfect together. Grenadine is one of my favorite additions to add to my drink recipes.
The best part of these is that they are kid-friendly. You don’t always have to have alcohol to really enjoy a drink, but you absolutely can spike these if you’d like.
With minimal and on hand ingredients, this will come together in mere minutes and is a great drink to cool down on a hot summer’s day.
Some of my other favorite drink recipes we have on our site include: Butterbeer, Bubble Tea and Strawberry Lemonade.
WHY THIS RECIPE WORKS:
- With super easy and minimal ingredients, this comes together in minutes.
- This is kid-friendly.
- You can make it an adult drink by spiking it.
INGREDIENTS NEEDED (FULL RECIPE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE POST):
- grenadine
- Crushed Ice
- Cola
- Maraschino Cherries
HOW TO MAKE A ROY ROGERS DRINK, STEP BY STEP:
- To the bottom of a tall glass, add the grenadine then top with the crushed ice.
- Pour the cola over the ice and mix well.
- Garnish with maraschino cherries and serve!
WHY IS MY GRENADINE SINKING TO THE BOTTOM?
This is nothing to worry about, you can just keep stirring it up. Grenadine is one of the heaviest liquids that you use in a drink or cocktail recipe.
It is absolutely natural for it to sink to the bottom, this doesn’t matter if you add it first or last.
WHAT IS GRENADINE?
Grenadine is a syrup that is used in a lot of bars to give drinks flavor and color. While most people think it is made from cherries it is actually made from pomegranates.
CAN I ADD ALCOHOL TO MY ROY ROGERS DRINK?
Absolutely! If you want to give this a little spike you can add some alcohol to this drink, some of our favorites include:
- Whiskey
- Bourbon
- Vodka
- Rum
Whatever you think would taste well with the cola and grenadine you can add.
WHAT KIND OF COLA SHOULD I USE?
While Coke is typically used in this drink you can also use Pepsi, Shasta Cola and RC Cola.
Diet works well with this as well, so you don’t need to use a non-diet cola for this drink.
HOW TO STORE:
We do not recommend storing this recipe. Only make when you are going to drink it as the ice will melt and the cola will go flat.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- You can use any cola you’d like, see above for suggestions.
- Spike this drink with some of your favorite liquors such as rum, whiskey, vodka and bourbon.
- This makes one drink, easily double or triple this recipe to serve more people.
- The grenadine sinking to the bottom is normal as it is a heavy liquid, just stir it back up.
- Use your favorite ice, pebble, crushed or cubed.
- Make sure you are using a tall glass.
