WHAT IS A DUMP CAKE?
The name pretty much says it all, it is because all the ingredients for the cake itself are literally dumped or poured into a 9″x13″ baking dish and there are no bowls necessary to mix anything together.
CAN I USE FRESH PEACHES?
You absolutely can, if you want to use fresh peaches the better! We just find it easier and quicker to used the canned peaches but you will need about 6-7 cups of peaches for this dish.
You can also use frozen peaches, on defrosting necessary with those. So you really have a bunch of options when it comes to peaches what you can find or what you have on hand.
CAKE OR COBBLER:
Some people want to call this a dump cake some people would call it a cobbler. Like I said before it resembles a cobbler because of the way it bakes up and doesn’t rise like a usual cake.
It pretty mush is a hybrid between the two recipes and you can really call it what you’d like honestly it wouldn’t make a difference because it can be both.
HOW TO STORE:
This cake can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. You can keep it on the countertop at room temperature but I wouldn’t leave it out for maybe more than 8 hours.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- You can use canned, fresh or frozen peaches for this recipe, see tips above.
- White or yellow cake mix can be used, that is a personal preference.
- This can be enjoyed warm or at room temperature.
- We like to top ours off with some ice cream and mint, but whipped cream is also good.
- If you want to switch up the flavors you absolutely can, use any fruit that you like and you have a whole new cake.
- You can either melt the butter and pour it over the cake mix or cut it up into pats and distribute evenly over dry cake mix.
