Crunchy, crispy and spicy Homemade BBQ Potato Chips are an easy delicious snack for any occasion. Simple spices make this a crunchy and tasty treat.
I have been going crazy lately with wanting to make Spring and Summer dishes, I’m so happy that the weather here in Minnesota has finally caught up to where it should be. Did I mention that last week we got to 90, but literally a week before that it was snowing. For real!! Mother Nature was confused! But it’s finally in the 60-70 degree range and it is absolutely beautiful. Although I am more keen on having it around the 80’s but I will not complain.
When I think of BBQ’s and picnics I always love having a bag of potato chips to accompany the meal. I mean, it’s a nice side to all your burgers and hot dogs. But why buy a bag when you can make your own at home?!?
You guys, this is super simple and they disappear in a flash. My kids prefer when we make our own chips to the bagged ones any day. You can make any kind of flavor that you like, but these BBQ version is our go to one hands down.
Now the only bad part about these is that they do require a mandolin to cut. If you don’t have one, don’t fret, you can certainly cut them with a knife, but they just need to be super thin. I have done this many many times, but I like using my mandolin because it saves a bunch of time and they all come our more of less uniform in size.
Fry them in some hot oil and then toss them in a sweet and spicy BBQ spice blend and you have yourself a great, easy, tasty side dish! Looking for some other great sides to go along? Homemade BBQ Potato Chips
- 3 potatoes peeled
- Oil for frying
- 1 Tbs paprika
- 2 tsp chili powder
- 2 tsp cumin
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1.5 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp pepper
- Preheat your oil to 375.
- In small bowl mix together all you seasoning ingredients.
- Using a mandolin slice your potatoes into very thin slices.
- In batches drop your potatoes into hot oil and fry for about a minute until golden and crispy.
- Drain in paper towel lined bowl and sprinkle with some of the seasoning and toss to coat.
- Repeat with remaining potatoes until all are cooked and seasoned.
