Quick, easy, filling and delicious these Ham and Cheese Sliders are a family favorite that goes a long way, full of ham, shredded cheese and a sweet topping.
So we love party sandwiches around here and we serve these Ham and Cheese Sliders at the majority of our get togethers and they are one of the first things to disappear.
Sliders are one of my favorite sandwiches. Probably because I can have more than one and not feel guilty about eating them and that you can make sliders into pretty much any flavor.
These ham and cheese sliders are stuffed full of ONE WHOLE POUND of ham. Yes that is a LOT of meat, but it makes them so flavorful and filling that you won’t regret stuffing them full!
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO MAKE HAM AND CHEESE SLIDERS?
- Hawaiian Rolls
- Ham
- Shredded Montery Jack cheese
- Butter
- Minced onion
- Dijon mustard
- Brown sugar
- Worcestershire sauce
- Poppy seeds
These sandwiches are also known as “funeral sandwiches”. That is such a depressing name and we have always just called them the old Ham and Cheese Sliders since I mean you hear sliders and you immediately get drawn in.
But they have always been a hit at funerals apparently so the nickname or formal name was penned that way, just like “funeral potatoes” which goes amazingly well with these sandwiches and we more often than not serve both of them together!
HOW DO YOU MAKE HAM AND CHEESE SLIDERS?
- Preheat oven to 350.
- Slice your Hawaiian rolls in half, and place bottom half in an 11″x7″ baking dish, set aside.
- In saucepan on stove melt together butter, minced onion, dijon mustard, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce and poppy seeds.
- Using a pastry brush, brush a nice thick layer onto the bottom half of rolls in pan.
- Next layer with your ham, we like to shingle the ham so it gets nice and even, then top with your shredded cheese.
- Place top layer of buns on top and then brush with more of the butter mixture.
- Bake in oven for 10 minutes and then brush with more of your butter sauce and bake again for 10 minutes longer.
- Remove from oven and brush with again more of the butter sauce.
- Cut and serve.
These sandwiches have always been one of my kids favorite meals. I think they could have these simple hand held treats every night if they could. They are really big sandwich fans and request to have any type of sandwiches multiple times weekly.
These make the perfect lunch, dinner, potluck, picnic or whatever meal. They are super simple, super fast and there is no denying that they’re a classic that everyone loves.

Can these be made ahead of time?
Tornadough Alli
You can assemble them ahead of time but I would not pour anything over the top until you are ready to bake them.

These things are Amazing!! Iโve made them for years.. I usually double the sauce mixture.. I do t use it all but with one batch the bottom bread seems to suck all the sauce up so thatโs why I double it.. Their are other recipes that use Swiss as the cheese .. I like to use slices of Swiss n Colby for this .. really makes it extra tasty .. plus I cover it with foil until the last ten minutes as to not make the buns too crispy.. dealing with kids so crispy is a no go for now lol .. And do t skim on the quality of ham it will show. Enjoy!!

Can you use hamburger buns?
Tornadough Alli
You can but then you would have to adjust the recipe some and add more meat, cheese and a larger pan as they won’t be slider sized.

These are very good. I usually use different deli meats and also make small hamburger patties. My family loves them!

katie
mine turned out soggy on the bottoms ๐คท๐ผโโ๏ธ

Hmmmmm I’m sorry that happened! It could be because some of the sauce seeped into the bottom, usually I do find that the bottoms to be a little less crispy, maybe use less of the topping and you shouldn’t have that outcome ๐
