Easy, flavorful and comforting this French Onion Soup is a delicious recipe that takes minimal ingredients and absolutely warms your belly to the soul!
I love any and all things onion. My kids on the other hand could pic out an onion if it was the smallest thing ever in a certain dish, even if it was invisible.
Funny story, they used to like onions and peppers and what not. They would always ask me what was in something and I would tell them that it was seasoning and they had absolutely no problems eating anything,
Well they got a little older and found out what “seasoning” actually was and BOOM they stopped eating it. I mean seriously, you’ve been eating it for how long and now you decide that you don’t like it because you know what it is, I mean come on.
Needless to say, I know that this is a soup that they won’t eat, but my husband and myself have always been French Onion Soup fans!
It is so warm, comforting, cheesy and downright delicious,. There are really easy ingredients in the recipe and its all pretty much made in one pan.
The addition of the sliced baguette on top really makes the soup something special. I think the cheese and bread is what I like best about the good old fashioned French onion soup recipes.

French onion soup is not the “quickest” soup recipe so to speak. It takes a good 40-50 minutes to break down the onions for them to get soft and caramelized and that is what is key to this recipe.
Once everyone is all said and done and this is cooked through you will have yourself melt in your mouth onions, for real. SOOOOOOOO good!
HOW DO YOU MAKE FRENCH ONION SOUP:
- In large pot on stove add your olive oil and onions, salt and pepper and over medium/low heat cook your onions until they are caramelized.
- Stir in your garlic and cook one more minutes.
- Add your flour and cook an additional minute then add sherry to deglaze the pan.
