Golden brown and fluffy on the outside with a rich chocolate Snickers bar center, these Deep Fried Snickers are so easy to make at home! The perfect fair food copycat!
You all know how much I love fair food and this week is a fair food series. These Deep Fried Snickers are one of the reasons why you’ll catch me at the State Fair every year.
People go there for the rides, some for the animals, or games, but, me, I’m there for the food! All the different fair food that is out there, how can you really choose?
But once the fair is over, the food is too. So, I knew I needed to start making my own versions of these treats and my other fair favorites, and these Deep Fried Snickers are one of them.
The family wasn’t disappointed either when I started trying to recreate this Deep Fried Chocolate Dessert. The kids love them, and so do my husband and I. They’ve become a family favorite for sure.
Now I’m not going to say at all that these are healthy, but what I will say is that they are 100% irresistible, I mean deep fried candy bars, how can you resist? I know I cant.
Some of our other favorite recreated dessert recipes on our site include: Homemade Skor Bars, Homemade Star Crunch and Reese’s Peanut Butter Chocolate Cake Cheesecake.

- Perfect for peanut butter and chocolate lovers alike!
- Made with easily available ingredients and done in no time!
INGREDIENTS NEEDED (FULL RECIPE AT BOTTOM)

Eggs
Granulated sugar
Whole milk
All-purpose flour
Baking powder
Fine sea salt
Powdered sugar
HOW TO MAKE DEEP FRIED SNICKERS, STEP BY STEP:
- Insert a skewer through the length of the Snickers bars, but do not go all the way through to the other side. Place the skewered Snickers on a sheet tray or plate and freeze them until they’re solid. This typically takes about 6 hours.
- Preheat a deep fryer with peanut oil or your preferred frying oil to 350ยฐF. You can also use a dutch oven for this with a candy thermometer to keep an eye on the oil temperature.
- Whisk together the eggs and sugar in a large mixing bowl, until smooth. Slowly whisk in the milk until all is well combined.
- Add the flour, baking powder, and salt to the mixing bowl and whisk until smooth, some lumps are okay. The batter should be thick but slightly thinner than pancake batter is.
- Once the peanut oil is hot in the fryer, take the frozen skewered Snickers, one by one, and dip them into the batter until they’re well coated. Let any excess batter drip off the Snickers bars.
- Carefully and slowly lower the battered Snickers into the oil. I like to keep a hold of the skewer for 5-10 seconds to let the bottom of the bar fry before dropping it in. This will make the bottom of the batter set up so it wonโt stick to the fry basket.
- Fry the candy bar for about 2 minutes, per side, or until your desired golden brown color shade is reached. Remove the fried bars from the fryer and place it on a paper-towel-lined plate to catch and remove any excess oil.
- Place the fried Snickers onto a wire rack over a sheet tray so it doesnโt get soggy. Once all the bars are fried, dust with powdered sugar, serve and enjoy.
HOW DO I KEEP MY SNICKERS FROM MELTING BEFORE I FRY THEM?
I can’t recommend freezing your Snickers enough. Yes, it adds a lot of time before you can sink your teeth into these treats, but trust me, waiting the extra time is well worth it.
And just remember, that even though we are freezing the Snickers, they may still get warm and gooey during the frying step.
I like to keep the Snickers that I’m not working with, in the freezer until Iโm ready to fry them so they donโt get warm.
WHAT OTHER TOPPINGS CAN I ADD?
Looking for more than just a light dusting of powdered sugar? Try chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, melted chocolate, or whipped cream for something different.
WHO INVENTED THE DEEP FRIED SNICKERS?
This fried treat originated in Scotland over 20 years ago! Guess what, the creator confessed that he’s never had a deep fried candy bar and he doesn’t ever want to eat one. Crazy, right?
WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO FRY THESE?
We like to fry these one at a time, it works best because you then can ensure that they will not stick together. The skewers you do not have to worry about, they are safe to fry as well.
HOW TO STORE:
These fried treats need to be eaten immediately, they do not keep well after a couple of hours; I do not recommend trying to freeze them once they’ve been fried.
The good part about this is you can make the batter, and freeze the Snickers separately so you can make them at a later time if you don’t want to make the whole batch at once.
The batter will keep in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and the candy bars will keep in the freezer for a length of time. Whenever you want, you can just dip the bars in the batter and fry them on up!
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- Don’t skip out on the freezing of the candy bars before you fry them, this helps put a limit on how much they’ll melt when fried.
- I highly suggest frying these treats one at a time to ensure that your Deep Fried Snickers Bars donโt stick together.
- We like to use full-sized Snickers but you can use any size you prefer. Just keep in mind that the different sized bars may get overwhelmed with the batter.
- There will be some batter left over, you can make funnel cakes or other fried treats with the rest! We make extra batter to make sure the bars get well coated.
- It’s best to use peanut oil or another high smoke point oil like canola or vegetable oil. You don’t want to use an oil with a lower smoke point and they’ll even make your fried candy bars taste funky.
- Always keep an eye on the frying oil temperature. Too cold oil will make your Snickers absorb the oil while cooking and taste oily. Using too hot oil will burn the candy bar and leave the inside undercooked while the outside gets burnt.
- We highly recommend using a candy thermometer so you can keep track of the temperature why deep frying.
