WHAT IS THE BEST CHEESE TO USE FOR MACARONI AND CHEESE?
This is 100% personal preference. But I always recommend using freshly shredded cheese because its melts better than the bagged cheese since it doesn’t have all the preservatives on there. But regarding some of the best cheeses for macaroni and cheese the list is limitless.
We really like to use a mixture of cheddar and mozzarella, since it gives a little bite but has a smoothness to it. Other cheeses great for Mac and cheese are fontina, gruyere, parmesan, etc. Any cheese that is a soft melting cheese is best!
HOW DO YOU MAKE A CHEESE SAUCE FOR MACARONI?
When making a cheese sauce you start with a basic roux made from flour, butter, milk and cheese. You melt you flour then stir in your flour, you then add your milk until it starts to thicken a little then slowly add your cheese in to melt. You then pour the over your cooked macaroni. Very simple and very tasty!
We recently made this for my daughter’s birthday party and there wasn’t any left! When you have guests going back for 2nd helpings you know you’ve done something right! So I’m happy to say that I think I’ve created something with keeping with this version.
With simple spices and cheeses there is nothing crazy about this mac and cheese! But sometimes basic is best! I mean I hate having yo search for that one ingredient that is supposed to set that dish apart and in the end I spend like 5 bucks on a spice or a cheese I’ll only use once…amiright?!?!
