If you love takeout but would rather make it at home then you need to whip up these KFC Bowls. With only 5 ingredients and only minutes to make it’s a quick and easy dinner recipe.
I have to admit that we get takeout way too much. When you cook food all day, sometimes just making dinner is a daunting task. But we have made it easier on ourselves.
We love to take some of our favorite restaurant recipes and recreate them at home. Some of our favorites include Olive Garden Chicken Gnocchi Soup, Texas Roadhouse Rattlesnake Bites and Wahlburgers Sloppy Joes!
Now when it comes to these KFC Bowls there is just so much ease to the recipe that it is one of our most made copycat dinner recipes that we make.
WHY THIS RECIPE WORKS:
- 5 ingredients it all it takes!
- Whips up in under 20 minutes.
- You can make as much or as little as you’d like, it is so versatile.
I have 6 mouths to feed in this house, including myself and not a lot of time most days. So when I can throw together 5 ingredients in under 20 minutes then it is a win for me.
When they first released the KFC Bowls we instantly became addicted. My kids and husband would ask for them all the time, well that money really adds up!
So, why not make them at home?!?!
HOW TO MAKE KFC BOWLS:
- Make 6 servings of instant mashed potatoes (or make your own homemade).
- Cook popcorn chicken according to package.
- Heat up your corn in the microwave or on stovetop, your preference.
- Make your gravy, we use a brown gravy packet.
- Assemble bowls by layering potatoes, corn, chicken, gravy and then top with shredded cheddar cheese.
BOOM, you are done. That is all that goes into making this KFC Bowl recipe.
While this is such a simple recipe it does not lack in flavor. If you want to doctor up your mashed potatoes to give them little more flavor, go for it.
We regularly add some sour cream, top the tater, garlic salt, etc to give them a little more flavor, so really just do what you like best!
TIPS AND TRICKS FOR MAKING KFC BOWLS:
- You can use instant mashed potatoes or make your own homemade version.
- You can also use Mac and cheese for this recipe as KFC also has a Mac and cheese bowl, just omit the corn and gravy.
- You can use chicken strips for this recipe, just cut them into pieces to top bowls.
- We use beef gravy, but you can use your favorite gravy.
So if you’re looking for a quick and easy dinner, lunch or anytime meal then you need to whip up these KFC Bowls and call it a day!

The cafeteria at the school where I teach makes these, and they’re better than KFC’s. These are so good with some salsa, hot sauce, or Taco Bell sauce. Yummy!

At the school I went to for high school about every Thursday we had popcorn chicken bowl for lunch and it was literally my favorite meal of the school year and of the week. My friends my junior year would get the same thing as me but they were just take the chicken off of it and give the rest of the chicken bowl to me and I would quite literally end up eating six popcorn chicken bowls every Thursday affectively my junior year of high school. And it didn’t bother me the least bit because I didn’t gain an ounce.
